Thanks dude. Did you enjoy the HD clips of Baer vs. Carnera? You can really see Baers punching technique in the slow mo clips. The entire fight is one of the most entertaining I've ever seen, but I only realized that when watching it in HD. I might do a video on the fight alone. So many great moments, like Primo and Max taunting each other. And Primo almost coming back in round 7 walking Max down with Klitschko like jabs and straights.
Nice work! If you were interested, I'd bet you could put together some equally compelling highlight clips on modern punchers like Tua and Bonecrusher Smith. This content is protected This content is protected
Hell yeah man, I'd love to. Eventually I hope to do a video on every single great fighter. I've been on an old school marathon lately out of a sense of duty for uncovered ground. I'm trying to do a James Toney video next. I have the perfect song, but I'm shocked at how hard it is to find good footage of him. Can't wait to do a Tua vid.
The slow motion, zoomed in clips really highlight some of the technical nuances in Baers game that most people think he never had. Have to admit I'm a bit surprised myself. Take 4:55 for instance. Baer draws out a jab with his hands low, slips it and comes over the top with an overhand right. Every other time I saw this clip, it was sped up to the point where it looked like a circus act with Baer just swinging his right like a caveman. Props.
Baer only fought a few fights where his mindset was kicking bass and taking names. (otherwise he was a showman and "joke-ster") However, in the Max Schmeling fight, he was dead serious and crushed Der Max.
Definitely, I was also surprised at his boxing IQ. The way he pivots while moving away from Carnera and using his jab to keep ring control. https://streamable.com/wj8xu
Maxie was a mate of Errol Flynn (who loved getting on the knuckle himself). Can you imagine those two hitting the Hollywood night spots in 1937?
6'2....215 pounds....great personality.....killer punch...he'd be great today with the 24/7 coverage on TV....the media would love this guy...
