This content is protected Heavyweights nowdays don't do this kind of training. Thats why we see fat out of shape 260 lbs fighters all the time. Max was lean 190 lbs heavy handed power puncher who would KTFO most of the corpses of the current HW era.
But. . . they still do. Chopping and sawing wood, hitting tyres with sledge hammers, pushing or pulling sleds etc. Speedbags and medicine balls haven't gone anywhere either.
The only difference now from then is the many distractions and the popularity shift of boxing in general.
The fat fighters are 9 times out of 10 just journeymen with little desire, nothing to do with the training style, Put them on the same training program and if they still eat cheap calorie dense fast food everyday they will sill be fat ****s. Back then food wasn't as cheap and as fast to get, It was a privilege to eat meat every night.
What are you talking about? Everyone who is in the top 10 is in good shape. But I personally don't think the problem with the journeymen is with them being lazy or more lazy then the journeymen of the past. The access to **** food since that era has been multiplied x 1000 and that's probably why there's alot more fat fighters in the heavyweight division. Back in that day It was way harder to find "bad" foods and there's a reason why obesity is a epedemic in western countries.
Muscular bodies don't win fights. Sounds like people are putting too much emphasis on that. Of course you have to be in decent shift but fat plums can get by and become contenders and challenge the best. It's more distractions which involve partying lifestyles and yes mcdonalds, burger king etc is all around.
The last time Baer weighed 190 he was still 21. He was usually in the 200-215 range. You'd see Marciano or Dempsey down at the 190 range, but 6'2" guys like Baer and Louis weighed the same as Ali and Holyfield when they were in shape.
Big difference between now and then is there wasn't a fast food restaurant on every corner. There were no foods injected with hormones and chemicals, there were no GMO's, there were no artificial sweeteners and preservatives etc. All that **** is toxic to the body. They were eating real food. Most the stuff today is genetically modified or not even 'real'.
Sad how he checked out at just 50 from a heart attack, everybody smoked back then got to assume that was a factor.
