What sources are you using for their actual heights?

    You think wrong.

Liston destroys him... as he does (eventually) the Rock.

What does it matter if Liston wasnt as fundamentally sound as Louis hes still light years ahead of Baers. Your response makes no sense. Liston brings more aggression than Louis. That along with higher skill level why I believe he would give Baer a vicious one sided beating.

God Baer looks awful. He passed away age 50 he looks 65-70 in that photo in the face.

Baer looks awful on film in a lot of fights. Only the Schmeling fight in which another poster correctly summarized he fouled the stuffing out of Herr Schmeling. I think Sonny Liston gets slightly overrated but I think Baer is overrated even more so. Great chin but Sonny pounds him out, he had little skill and a poor engine, often clowning and doing nothing for long stretches. That wouldn’t fly with Sonny

    It’s just an illusion.
Rocky is a midget so it makes Baer seem like a giant.
Rocky was wearing stilts in the Liston photo.
    And he was a glutton.

Totally agree. I think he's only like two years older than me in the first picture, but he looks not much younger than my father does.

Sonny is no more than 6’0” for sure.

Some listings don’t seem to add up at all.

I wonder what height Max Baer would be listed at today? Only Carnera seemed bigger than him. Today Baer could be listed 6’4” and nobody would argue since everyone seems to be shorter than advertised.

How can I be wrong about size “evening things up” in a fantasy fight? You know this?

Guys like you put everything on size after all don’t you?

Liston has no physical advantage at all in this fight. This is a huge factor!

And Baer can hit Sonny on the chin harder than anyone else did whilst also being more durable than Sonny.

If anyone could be Sonnys bogey man it is max Baer. There’s a real chance Baer knocks Sonny spark out.

Source for the injuries,in the post fight interview he never mentioned any. An agenda driven thread which has had all the input it gets and warrants from me.

If anything he was a great fella with bucketfuls of character. He didn't appear to take boxing all too seriously but he did carry big power in that right hand.

A shame he died so early from a heart attack, I believe he had suffered minor attacks before and never got checked out.

That first round against Joe Louis, Baer unloads a furious, full blooded, all out attack. Both hands. He gave it everything, and if Joe Louis had not have responded at just the right time, with the kind of accuracy only he had, He (and just about anyone else) could have been overwhelmed, succumbing to a Baer knockout. There must have been moments in it. Not many could have dealt with that situation. It took everything Joe Louis had to get out of it.

Probably one of the biggest American to hold the title until Riddick Bowe.

Liston beats Max far worse than Louis does, regardless of size, also they're pretty similar in height and weight despite pictures (which were taken at doffediff angles and distance anyway)

I'll take Liston. He had actual skills to go with his physicality. I've always felt Baer was a bit of a strongman knocking over physically weaker but more skilled fighters.
