I’m going with Baer by 15 round KO. Eventually Jacks gonna leap right into a nasty right and he’s not getting up.

I suspect that Johnson would take a wide decision win, one way or another.

I would confidently pick Johnson here.

Papa Jack by decision. KO if he gets riled.

Idk here guys...there is just nothing I see in punching form from Johnson I see that could compete with really any champ 30s up. He had the raw skills to compete but boxing changed so much even in the two and half decade gap between their primes. I just don’t see Jack beating many top guys but I am openly biased against pre 30s era boxers. I suppose of any fighters Max could fall to Jack as he also lacked in many areas.

Johnson easily, well maybe not easily but no question who wins it.
Johnson by Decision and max gets banged up in the face.

I'm with the consensus that JJ handles him.

This matchup is fairly straightforward. Baer is going to find it hard to land on JJ, and JJ won't have trouble finding Baer. Baer could win a brawl but JJ won't do that. He'll potshot and hold and maul. I don't think a goofball like Baer has the mental strength to hang in there getting frustrated and punched up round after round. The fly in the ointment is that Baer was as strong for his size as anybody has ever been. Wrestling Baer is going to be quite taxing for JJ. There's an outside chance that the wrong man gets tired mauling.

Look, Baer certainly has a puncher's chance. His power is unquestionable. What is questionable, however, is his technique. I feel JJ is advanced enough to be favoured.

Johnson was clearly very good at not getting hit, even if his technique was a bit MMA/old school.

Honestly, I think by the middle rounds Baer's face is beginning to be a mess and Johnson avoids Baer's desperation bombs and stops him in 8, I think it's surprisingly easy too.

An old Johnson made Firpo look like a fool ,and when asked how hard he hit replied,"I couldn't tell you,I didn't let him hit me."
I don't think Baer's technique was appreciably better than Firpo's and he would be facing a prime Jack here, not a fat middle aged one.

When did he fight Firpo? Or was it sparring?

After he lost the title, he had trouble getting big fights, so he acted as a sparring partner for Firpo.

By all accounts he had to take it easy on him.

    Baer is a live underdog.

Big time chin and pulverizing power go a long way against a guy who can be that static on film. I don't think Jack would win by the waltzing game. Still favoring Johnson but not by much.
