I would pick Jeffries. Pysically, he was stronger, and he can survive Baer´s murderous right hands. And than, after 13 rounds, Baer would getting tired, which would be the advantage for the great conditioned Jeffries to TKO Max...

    Jeffries TKO 14 Baer

I rate his chin very high, 9´5 out of 10, you know, he took some many bombs from Sharkey, Johnson, Fitzsimmons and was never hurt, so I doubt if Baer could do it...

how do you rate it, Bad_Intentions?

Bear was a poor boxer. I'm serious. He had joruneyman skills, a clownish nature in the ring that lacked effort, and a world class punch. This is why he lost many fights on points. Jeffries wins via easy UD, or late TKO.

    9.5

your right, he took alot of shots from sharkey johnson and fitzsimmons, even from choynsky, he never really got knocked down. it is said that when jeffries was hit, he was able to gain enough energy to hit back even harder.

the man was big time clown, never took boxing serious, but his punches were really dangerous especially his right hand, it is said he semi-killed 3 boxers in his career.

if he didn't took the 6 year layout he would've defeated johnson. but that's my opinion, I'm pretty sure their's people here that will disagree with me.

I think so too. Even he himself said after the fight he would have never beaten Johnson, but after a beating like that it´s normal that you psychical have reached the zero point, his self-confidence and his ego were too much hurt to give a honest and realistic answer. For me, prime4prime, Jeffries takes it via late TKO...

7 or 8 in his own era. He took some huge shots from Johnson, but he was never tested against a massive puncher his own size.

8 or 9 in this era. The shots he took with tiny gloves were worse than the bigger shots he'd take with heavier gloves today.

exactly. when you say that white man is better than a n*gro in boxing and then you get your ass kicked by a black man, then of course he will say he would've never beaten him in his prime, his self-confidence and esteem is gone. but jeffries had a great chin, and an amazing power. he would definitely beat johnson (KO), if jess willard was able to ko johnson then of course jeffries could.

exactly. the gloves of today are bigger and reduce your punching power.

I think so, too. That the Willard- fight was fixed ( because Johnson guard his face from the sun, on the other side he didn´know after the KO what day is, that´s illogical, etc.), is IMO only a cheap alibi. Johnson is one of the most overrated fighters ever.

But in his times, 6´2 was very big, measured by the today standards ca. 6´4 or so. Sharkey and Fitzsimmons were very hardhitting HW´s who KO´d even much bigger men... IMO better facing fighters of this calibres who are smaller than fighters who are big but nothing special (I know you said big AND hardhitting good fighters)
