I favour Tua over Baer, however Baer on form could well reverse that.

I would enjoy Buffer trying to introduce the fighters if full names used

Maximillian Adelbert Baer vs Mafaufau Tavito Lio Mafaufau Sanerivi Talimatasi

Because Baer doesn't have the stylistic advantage here. You act like his height and reach are decisive factors when Max simply doesn't use those attributes to fight long and tall. You could have dimensions like Wilt Chamberlain, but if you don't use them as such, they don't count as such. Further, Tua, at least in my view has a better chin than Maxie Poo, and being that Max's forte isn't defense.... he's going to be hit. Tua is no defensive wizard himself, but again, having a better chin will serve him if it comes to just firing exchanges back and forth.

I just think with each other s style's of fighting that Tua would be the one doing the most damage .Max can obviously bang and he's catching Tua but I reckon he d take it better and he'd be aware of that. It wouldn't be a blow out but a case of Bear getting clouted More as the fight goes on. When taking both men in to account I'd be more confident in Tua coming out with the ko win .

Height and reach generally are decisive factors when a swarmer tries to march on a slugger, even if the slugger is not a defensive specialist.

that is why George Foreman beat Joe Frazier so conclusively.

Tua will have to walk through Baer's bombs just to get into punching range, and when he does Baer will just step back, then rinse and repeat.

Tua may prove himself to be bolder than I think, but I suspect that when he sees that his attempts to impose himself mean walking into Baer's bombs, his attack will lose its steam and he will settle for finishing on his feet.

Right. He does not have quick enough feet to close that gap. Maybe better conditioning and the ability to box off his toes could catch Baer, but that stuff is not in his toolchest any more than Baer's ability to mimic Jack Johnson defensively.

Baer's way too easy to hit. Tua by early knockout.

To me it's so, so simple.

When you see Baer throwing, he looks uncoordinated and not particularly accurate. When Tua throws - just look at the highlights package I posted - he's compact and his accuracy is very high. Baer can't box worth a lick and his footwork is atrocious. It's going to be a slugfest and Tua doesn't **** around pulling faces and flexing pecs, he comes to destroy.

I'll take Tua's 53-5 over Baer's 66-13 anyday, especially because Tua fought the better opposition and he also has a KO% of 73% as opposed to 65%. IIRC Tua has never even been knocked down whereas Baer has 3 KO losses. And Tua has fought monster hitters like Ibeabuchi and Lewis. So, chin, Tua as well.

Maybe it's just me, picking on Baer again, but I see a gulf between these two guys.

Just checked Boxrec, you're right, he did. Tua returned the favour in their return bout:

    http://boxrec.com/media/index.php/David_Tua_vs._Monte_Barrett_(2nd_meeting)

However, I find this sort of thing terribly disheartening:

    "
    • Before this bout, Tua revealed to the press that he was broke and homeless, and living with his wife and two children in rental accommodations.
    • Tua earned U.S. $ 12 million from his title bout with Lennox Lewis in 2000. Due to recent prolonged legal battle in the New Zealand courts with his two ex-managers, Tua had to pay U.S. $ 4.2 million in legal fees.
    • Tua also got served with U.S. $ 2.2 million dollars in back taxes from the government of New Zealand, which froze the purses of his last three fights there in 2009 and 2010. "Sometimes you go through certain journeys in life," stated Tua."

Tua is a fast or feast guy based on styles .. Baer's is made for him .. a guy that is not particularly fast, open to be hit would get seriously hurt .. I see Tua in about two rounds or so crushing him.
