Man, you're right, I do. Maybe I need to sit out of his threads. Baer seems just like such a limited fighter that has everybody hanging off his nuts. Nothing against him other than that fact.

Unpopular opinion here, but if it's a serious max I think he wins. I don't think Tua would know how to deal with Baer's crazy agression, and while Tua was big, max was still a pretty big guy himself, standing at 6'3" with a massive 81" reach that he'd keep tua away with. And people sometimes forget how tough max was, Louis only knocked him out after what must have been a thousand clean punches to a timid, goofing around max.

Baer UD over 10/12 rounds or TKO over 15 from a fading Tua

Stylistically they are very similar, and have the same strengths and weaknesses.

Anybody who thinks that Tua has a stylistic advantage, probably doesn't understand the key boxing styles, and how they match up.

    A few notes on Baer...

He doesn't have much of a jab, pawing at best, not the bludgeoning tool that Foreman utilized. That would be something to help against Tua.

He gets hit with left hooks. Schmeling hit him with plenty. Louis of course. Even Braddock. Bad news against Tua.

He likes to flurry at close range, really dropping his hands and flailing. Again, bad news against Tua.

Agree with all of this. This one would be a one-sided demolition job.

I will give you one note on Tua:

He consistently lost when he stepped up against people ranked in the top ten.

The onus is far more on the people picking Tua to justify their pick, than it is on the people picking Baer.

this cannot simply be overlooked here!
Baer did have a jab, and there is plenty of film to back this up.

Even if he didn't, that is never going to be the deciding punch, in a swarmer on slugger encounter.

To quote Joe Louis "it is your right hand that you are going to win it with kid."
However much you try to spin this into Tua having some sort of stylistic advantage, it is still a short armed swarmer trying to walk onto a slugger, who is a match for him in power and durability give or take.

You also can't simply overlook the fact that Baer was a far far more accomplished fighter at world level!

Tua was out boxed by fighters similar in size to Max Baer in Ike Ibeabuchi and Hasim Rahman. Baer being underrated here and Tua overrated. Baer on pts.

Tua is the most chronically overrated fighter in history!

He is built up into this wrecking machine, who is a threat to all time greats, and he couldn't even get past the top ten of the division!

What is it going to take to bring this resume down to earth?

Did Baer have a Lewis jab? That's what it took to derail Tua.

And I'm going to make my own Modest Proposal that what was considered World Class in Baer's day didn't come close to what was required for the same in the 1990s. I know, crazy of me.

    Carry on.

It is 100 percent based on styles .. Tua could be outboxed. Baer was not outboxing him. I could conceivably see Baer going out like Ruiz .. Tua should have gotten the nod vs Ike, destroyed multiple time champ Ruiz, stopped future champ Rachman, iced past champ Moorer, was edged by Byrd by a razor thin decision ( horrific scoring ) .. this talk of him not matching up against world class fighters is a myth. Baer was slow, wild, sloppy, stood straight up with his chin out and was made for Tua who would destroy him faster than Louis did ..

I love both fighters. Max may be one of the best showman in the ring with legendary power. But I feel like every footage of him I see he has horrendous defense. I don’t see any lazy defender lasting long w tua. I could be wrong he did a good job avoiding Carneras blows.

While no Ali, Tua was pretty average regarding footspeed, and Baer was no finesse merchant.
