If he ****s about like he did against Carnera ,he likely loses, imo.

Max had power, but he looked horrendous fighting Carnera. Falling all over him after throwing a punch.... I've never seen that before, especially in a championship fight

For a guy who lost easily to the best fighters he fought, Tua sure is rated highly on this forum.

For a guy who lost even to guys that were not "the best" when he fought them Baer sure is rated highly by this forum.

If you don't mind my saying so, you are both missing the main stylistic issue, and that is that Baer was a slugger and Tua was a swarmer.

Swarmers do better than sluggers against classic boxers, and boxer punchers because they smother them, but they generally do badly when they come up against sluggers.

The swarmer has to advance on the slugger to implement his game, and the slugger just gets there first with the most, and smashes the swarmer coming in.

Even if the swarmer has better defence it generally doesn't help them.

The stylistic cards are all with Baer here.

    At their peaks:
    Tua hit a bit harder.
    Baer moved better.
    Baer had faster hands.
    Baer was more dynamic.
    Baer had more heart.

I wouldn't bet the farm that Tua hit harder to be honest.

I don't exactly subscribe to your broadbrush attempts at categorization and the conclusions drawn from said categorizations.

My concerns are a bit more concrete. A) Baer got tagged with left hooks but relied on his chin to weather them. I don't reckon that's the best approach against Tua (who also had a dynamite right). B) Baer liked to get in close and throw shots from low and wide angles. Firstly, any supposed handspeed advantage is out the window with those wide, circus shots. Secondly, he was wide open and often squared up. That's really bad circumstance when facing Tua.

So basically street here is nothing concrete about your line of argument.

You are ignoring the stylistic dynamic, Baers physical advantages, and better resume.

You then base your entire argument on certain flaws in Baer's game, while ignoring the flaws in Tia's game, as if he were some sort of technical wizard.

Tua just seems like he can keep his form better. Baer seems more all over the place. I think that's pretty important in keeping up a focused attack.

That said, I watched some Baer highlights again ... whatever my criticisms of him, the man could hit goddamn hard!

Baer did two things Tua couldn't, win a world title and beat good fighters.
