1-irrelevant. Ali and holmes were stopped by guys who wouldnt make it as b level attractions in the amateurs. 2-irrelevant. 3-i wouldnt care if it was eddy futch and cus d amato co signing it. We dont know for sure and we have no footage. There are all kinds of crazy sparring stories and theyre just that: stories. Roach bragged that pacquiao beat the crap out of amir khan and koed him but the footage showed khan holding his own. 4-he was still stopped twice by a guy barely over 200 lbs, which also makes me question his power if nova survived that long. Louis hit hard af too but he was around the same weight. 5-opinion So in other words you have ZERO proof baer had a better chin than wilder at the elite professional level. You do realize fighters are often teenagers and still growing and learning their trade in the amateurs?
1) Relevant. It wasn't the amateurs, sonny. 2) Relevant. 3) Your opinion. 4) You've not addressed the fact that he was stopped on cuts not blows. 5) Yes, Baer had a better chin than Wilder. So in other words, you fail on every level.
1-3) let me know when you have actual data or footage based on facts when wilder was a pro. 4) it takes power to cause cuts numbskull. How often to feather fisted opponents create cuts/bruises/swelling/etc? Chin has to do with how well your face holds up as well as how well you handle being hit hard. Nova was barely over 200 and thus couldnt get nearly as much and leverage into his punches as wilder. 5) baseless opinion
The advantage of saying that Baer has a better chin, is that you don't have to worry about what happens in his next fight. If you think that Wilder has an iron jaw, lets see what happens over the next few years!
Or handspeed makes the difference. Deontay doesn't need to catch his opponent too many times to end the fight. If he gets their first, it might be all that happens. One thing to remember is that Baer was scared stupid in his dressing room of a Louis who up to that time had mostly bashed a bunch of nonamers, has-beens, and also rans. What's going to be his mental disposition if he watches Wilder flatten similar types in Lyakovich and Stiverne and Szpilka and Arreola?
I still think this is one of the best possible fantasy matchups. That’s a good point. But another thing to remember is that we don’t have most of Baers knockouts in film. We can’t even see him at his most vicious.
Sometimes, smaller fighters do make it the distance against historically big punchers. For instance, Machen who weighed 193 pounds made it the distance vs a prime Liston. But that doesn't make Liston not a big a puncher. The only reason we don't see it today is because the cruiser weight division was added. Maybe Machen or Nova would hang around for quite a while if they fought Wilder? And if they did, would that make Wilder a feather fist?
I think after seeing him wobbled with jabs by Washington and Spilka and would feel a little less fearful especially since Wilder isn't a dynamic, accurate counter puncher like Louis.
I already posted the footage of Wilder getting flattened by the Polish Sausage. I already posted the link to boxrec. Here, again: http://boxrec.com/media/index.php/Deontay_Wilder_vs._Dustin_Nichols and http://boxrec.com/media/index.php/Deontay_Wilder_vs._Harold_Sconiers It's all there, numbskull. Try keep up.
I actually don't rate Baer very highly based on his skills. He looks as crude as they come. But, he could hit like a goddamn truck and he had a cast iron chin. Wilder also hits like a truck but his chin is questionable. Furthermore, Wilder is very hittable. I say Baer wins.
Machen went the distance because he was in 100% survival mode and rarely opened up on liston. That isnt to take away from his p4p skill. Of course that wouldnt make wilder feather fisted if a slick elite fighter like machen or, for example, jimmy young went 12 rounds. Some guys just have good chins combined with incresivle resilience, defense, and able to slip and dodge shots at the last second to minimize the damage all while remaining a small target and countering.
