Both prime. Baer at 6'3 209 pounds had just knocked out Carnera to win the title... his first defense is against the 6'3 1/2 217 pound 37-0 George Foreman. Both hit like mules and have iron chins. Baer has an 81in. reach Foreman sports an 82in. reach.
Great fight on paper, but '72 and '73 Foreman clobbers 1933 and 1934 Max Baer in about 6 hardcore rds of fierce, but sloppy brawling... MR.BILL:hat
Baer has one shot and that is to come out fast and hit Foreman with his big right hand right awayand really rock him ... if not Foreman crushes him in abiut 2 rounds ..
Baer is one of my favorite "old time" HWs, but he doesn't have much chance in this fight. I do not think that he gets KOd quickly, however. Baer had an IRON chin, one of the best in HW history. Stopped once for the count in 84 fights, and even then, against Louis, he was conscious, and essentially chose not to get up. If Baer gets stopped, it's a late rounds TKO, or maybe corner retirement. No way does a prime Baer get KOd early. His chin was THAT good.
Would people classify Baer as being near his prime around the time he fought Braddock orLouis? Because Louis took Baer apart and Foreman had more power than Louis, was bigger than Louis and there probably wasn't a big difference in speed. Baer wasn't really as big a hitter as people think he was. I think Foreman walks through him. I mean, yeah, Baer could crack but his KO record is largely a result of fighting alot of cans. Foreman KOed quality opposition.
How would an undefeated and un tested Foreman handle being cracked with a cinderblock of a right hand by a guy his size?
73 Foreman TKO's Baer in round 8. I feel Baer's chin can hold Foreman's punches a few rounds until he gives up.
Still think Max's focus problem gets him in trouble here. He'd get hit too much early and probably blown out before he had a chance to extend George.
Doesn't go past 7 rounds. Up in the air, I guess. http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?p=9518408 Talked about it in my thread here.
Thought about both of these prior to entering the thread , came to the conclusion of easier than Lyle.
