Baer would decimate Norton.

Norton comes out jabbing, dancing aroud Baer. People forget how great Norton was off the back foot and his complete lack of fear against huge punchers. Baer is utterly frustrated, apparenlty lacking the more dynamic and varied punching of a Foreman, Cooney, or Shavers. Norton eludes with his slippery head movement and fantastic back foot boxing, he gets on the ropes, plays the crowd, making Baer missing while counter punching. Baer gets lucky with a wild swing, Norton laughs it off, and keeps dancing. Such underrated durability and courage. Norton puts together a breath taking combination of crisp shots that lays Bear out for the 10.

 

I think Ken wins 70 or 80 percent of the time. Baer was no Foreman. Norton was the overall superior fighter and I think he'd outbox and probably batter Baer.

 

I believe a new legend is beginning.

 

Geez...

Baer has scored knockdowns and set up KOs with his left hook (to head and body). Shavers set up his first knockdown over Norton with a left hook tha turned the tide of the fight and put Norton on rubber legs.

 

Baer would outbox Ken Norton

 

I see this as a bad style match up for Norton and don't agree with those picking him. When it came to boxers like Ali and Holmes he did well against and fought close fights with them but he froze against the best punchers he faced Foreman, Shavers and Cooney. Though the last two punchers fought Norton pass his prime I still think they would have gotten him at any point in his career. And I don't see any exceptions with a monster puncher in Max Bear

 

Another vote for Max.

The punch Norton was vulnerable to with that crab defense is the left hook. Max threw a real good one and he'll land over Norton's bodyshots. I think Kenny tries going to the body too often against this guy and gets tagged while throwing from the outside. Ballgame would be all over right then and there and maybe it goes 5, but Max is going to land a big punch against that defense.

 

Norton froze against big punchers. Eddie Futch knew this. I once read about how Norton and Frazier used to go to war in sparring, and somebody said to Eddie Futch that it would have been a great fight. He didn't think so.
I think Norton would freeze against Baer and get knocked out in one or two rounds. Once Baer realized that Norton was afarid he'd tear him up.

 

This is a reasonable view..

The other thing I want to ad, is that the only puncher who really beat Norton at the height of his powers was Foreman, whereas he was dimimished by the time he fought Shavers and Cooney.. And as you say, Foreman was a two fisted attacker who commonly rivals a select few as the hardest puncher of all time - something Baer doesn't.

 

Norton had been stopped before the Foreman fight by Garcia n an upset loss. And about all that guy brought to the table was a right hand.

Nevertheless, that Foreman fight really blew out a lot of candles at the time for Norton. He sure did well to recover from that slaughter, but it was a long long time before they put him in with a live hitter. Pretty much 6 years and there certainly were punchers out there. and nobody would have been backing Kenny if he'd beat Ali in 76 and they were talking about a Foreman rematch.

 

Baer would have scored a spectacular ko over Norton. He would have knocked Kenny's head off his shoulders..but make no mistake about it...it's a fired up Max Baer I'm referring to. If Norton got psyched out by punchers, then a glancing right hand by Baer would have made him suck up some seat cushion for real.

 

Max had a great beard, Ken did not, both men were big boys but I don't think Max would have to worry about a decision here....Max by KO
