Baer should be clearly favoured here.

It is a bit of a no brainer realy.

We discussed this one ad nauseum a few weeks ago.

Everyone but Janitor deemed Norton too slick.

    Its quite simple realy.

Max Baer might not be as acomplished on paper as Ken Norton.

He might be a wastrel, who fritered away his talent.

It might be offensive to some people to pick Baer over the guy who beat Ali.

    But............

The reality is that Baer is going to crush Norton for stylistic reasons.

I suppose the match up depends on whether you think Norton can beat a big puncher or not.

i don't like baer on film. i've seen him and his technique is embarassing. yes, he had power but his delivery system was ****.

as pp asked, it dependds on how much you like norton to beat a puncher. norton was destroyed a crude puncher in foreman and a slightly less crude puncher in shavers. no matter baers flaws he could still hit like a demon.

despite that, and his reputation, i don't think he's got the one puch power of either foreman or shavers. he lands, he shakes up, he maybe drops norton but in the end, kenny gets up and boxes behind that fantastic jab and awkward defense to a decision

Baer certainly had the power but he was a one punch at a time fighter and generally didn't set up his right with any kind of jab. He pretty much measured his opponent and then threw a right hand and it will take more than that to stop a peak Norton. Foreman, Shavers and Cooney threw punches in bunches at Norton....jabs, hooks, uppercuts and rights before putting him away. Baer just doesn't fight like that. He stands straight up, paws with his left and looks to load up with his right. This wouldn't be enough to beat Norton. Max had all the physical attributes to be a great fighter, if only he had the skillset and mindset to match them.

Talk about how more sophisticated Norton is all you want to..but the fact is that power overwhelmed him..and Baer had legendary power in that right, just as Shavers did. He lands that right on Norton and it's over.

I have to agree with Bum here..... My guess is, Norton is a problem for 5 or 6 rds, but Baer eventually lands a shot or two from hell and stops Norton by TKO... Norton is game and wanting to continue, but the ref is forced to waive the fight over after he see's Norton has that glassy and glazed look in his eyes... Baer TKO 7 Norton.....

You're obviously not slick enough to remember correctly.

My advice to you... Get slicker.

I think Kenny would have eluded & outboxed Maxie & stopped a frazzled tired Max about 12 rounds.
