Norton puts a clinic on Baer until he get's hit, Baer's chin is good enough to withstand anything Norton can throw at him and his stamina is good enough to go 20 rounds. Name me one puncher in Baer's league that Norton went the distance with?

Baer would catch him after the first 5 or 6 rounds.

"slick" is code in these parts.

    Yeah, that makes sense.
I had a feeling it was some sort of slang or code. But for a while ther I thought the world of ordinary language had turned upside down.

Norton's only real chance here to try and box his way to a decision, but he can't afford to trade with Baer.

Though it was wisely suggested earlier to avoid betting on the KO in very competitive match-ups, I would throw that advice out the window in this case. And even though I believe Norton is less chinny than advertised (those flashy KO defeats came in his old age, an age at which someone like Baer was long retired)... I still don't think Norton can box and hide for 15.

Norton is the better fighter overall, but stylistically he's up shits creek without a paddle.. Shommel started a thread like this is november and again in March.... No need to do it again in june.

'Back up a puncher and take away his power'

He did that to Quarry and some rate Quarry as a puncher

    Some key differences:

    1. Quarry wasn't on Baer's level of power

    2. Quarry wasn't on Baer's level of durability

    3. Quarry was not Baer's size

    4. Quarry was nearing the end of his career.

The gulf in endurance is huge between the Larruper and JQ. In fact, Max's stamina is far more proved than Norton's on the basis of King Levinski II alone. Mention should also be made that his impressive showing in the rematch with Farr was also over the championship distance. Ken's championship distance resume is limited to a UD loss, a split decision loss and a split decision win, all close and controversial. Maxie dominated Farr and Levinski over the longer distances.

I'm not saying that version of Quarry is Baer's equal or that Norton wins but the principle holds of using speed and pressure to get off first and keep the puncher off balance

Now Norton may get ko'd trying but there has to be some level where he beats a puncher. Larry Holmes was hardly a powder puff puncher either

No way is Baer as conditioned as Norton and he certainly doesn't fight at the same pace or intensity
