The problem is that some people think that one, has literally no bearing upon the other, without having any other evidence!

Just by watching them each of their fights my man, moorer had the better footwork, hand speed, pop and ring i.q.

Then you should be able to offer some more detailed explanation!

It is hard to see how you would argue for anybody having better ring IQ than Schmeling.

It would be like arguing that one chess masters best game, was better than anthers!

Correct!!! Honestly if folks would just simply watch the existing film of both fighters, it would be easy to tell who was the more skilled guy. Unfortunately most of the people on this forum never actually boxed and love the fairly tale of how amazing a guy like Max Baer was. He was successful in his era but my god the film I have watched makes him look terrible. Bad footwork, no combination punching, hands held low and slow as hell.

Nope, I really don't think so. Baer is overrated. He stopped Schmeling and Carnera... two far from iron jawed fighters. Who else? Les Kennedy? He also lost to Les Kennedy. Schaaf? He lost to him as well, Schaaf gave him a lot of trouble in their rematch as well. Tuffy Griffiths? Nothing special about those guys.

Moorer's resume isn't all that either but he was pretty consistent for a few years.

Moorer was 35-0 (30) going into the Foreman fight. He was 12-0 (11) in world title fights at this point. He had stopped F. Swindell x2, L. Stewart, A. Stewart, and B. Cooper among others. He beat Bonecrusher every round and almost stopped him. He won a decision over Evander Holyfield. He was way up on points vs. Foreman going into the 10th round but Moorer was stopped in the 10th. Moorer would go 3-1 (1) in future world title fights. He would beat A. Schulz, F. Botha, V. Bean, and V. Jirov among others. He lost the rematch to Holyfield but fought very well. He has a better resume than Baer.

Maybe not Martin but Mike The Bounty Hunter or Wimpy Halstead would probably get the job done.

Very true brotha, alot of the people on here want to hero worship and the thought of a fighter from 100 years ago beating a modern one makes their pussies wet.

    Watch film...
Must try, never thought of that

Did you say no combination punching? Curious, have you watched Baer outside the Braddock and Louis fights?

Baer threw some mean jaw-eye-left rib-jaw-eye-right rib-jaw-nose combinations to Louis' fists!

In all seriousness, what do you make of Max's combination punching in this clip?

Sloppy, over eager, dangerous, explosive, desperate.
He's about the get knocked out by perhaps the best puncher in the sports history. Not his brightest moment.
But he didn't mention the quality of the combos, he denied the mere existence of them.
