Depends which version of each turns up. If it’s the serious Baer of the Schmeling fight then he has a chance. If it’s the jackass who lobbed versus Braddock then his chances are drastically reduced. If it’s the fit and motivated Mercer of the Morrison and Lewis fights then he has a chance. If it’s the lazy slob of the Ferguson or Wilson fights then his chances are drastically reduced. Both at their best then I’d go with Ray due to his better fundamentals and jab and his cast iron jaw (in fact both men had terrific chins). There’s be plenty of punishment meted out and absorbed by both but Ray edges it by close UD with no KO or KD’s. Great matchup potentially .
Good fight, at his best Baer could win by decision, but Mercer had good jab which is important tool to beat Baer. No KOs or KDs.
As with most here my vote goes to Ray, he hits straighter up the middle, has a better idea of defense and could take it as well if not better then Max.
