This thought just popped into my head. Who would win if these two fought? Baer was probably the harder hitter, but Lyle had underrated boxing skills. What do you think?

I think they both hit equally hard, but Lyle was more two fisted.

I would go Lyle, but it would be very enjoyable and anything could happen.

Baer was a harder hitter Lyle was less of a puncher than Quarry,,,slightly better than average, Baer had sick right hand power

Lyle was talented and had more heart. I think he would win a hard fought decision similar to his win over Bugner.

Baer looped his shots. Lyle punched straight. Lyle by KO.

Lyle had lot of televised fights, making him wel known, some very exiting. But he almost always came up short in against top fighters, so I'd give Baer edge.

Baer by KO. He was the harder hitter and more durable man, and although Lyle was more skilled, it would most likely come down to a shoot-out, in which his pure attributes would see him through, I think.

Ran this one three times with Title Bout . Baer won two, Lyle the other, all ended inside the scheduled 12 round distance. Baer's superior power and durability compensated for Lyle's superior boxing skills. Reminds me of Foreman-Lyle.

Your computer seems to be programmed quite well!

Both guys hit hard, but Baer took the far better punch. Baer by KO

Fighters of the 30's, were in a league below men of the 70's. I pick Lyle by a knockout or wide decision. Too much background against a better class of fighters.

    Dont you believe it.

Baer might have been bellow guys like Ali, Frazier and Foreman but he was just as far above guys like, Norton, Quarry and Lyle.

No era is a league above any other era in reality.

    I'll repeat,

Fighters of the 30's were in a league below fighters of the 70's.

    There really is no comparison.

I don't care how many #1 contenders or hall of famers Baer beat. It has nothing to do with it, when you compare the 30's to an era where athletes were better skilled and better trained, with superior abilties. On the night that Lyle gave Foreman fits, he would have beaten most fighters of Baer's era including baer himself.

    Not worth a debate.

Baer (the iddiot) rose to the top, in the depresion era when the total talent pool of heavyweight boxers was bigger than at any time since.

There were more technical boxers back then.

Hell there was a James Toney hiding behind every bush.

Put Lyle in that era and he will run riot but there will always be Quarrys to beat him.

    Several in fact.
