With both in their primes, 12 rounds, how would this matchup go?

That is the million dollar question.
Just watched the Chagaev " sparring match", if Wlad carried his left down as low as that against Maxie he would find himself on his educated arse ,courtesy of a Baer overhand right .

I'd pick Baer i'm afraid. I'd like to pick Wlad today.

    Wlad is a cerebral fighter.

He would probably send Baer a case of beer and a bevy of dancing girls in the lead up to the fight.

Always I take into consideration what a motivated, serious Max Baer could have accomplished, if you magically transported him into these modern times and had a trainer like, say, Emanuel Steward, or someone who could have properly motivated that head case.

Wlad wins every round until some kind of stoppage. Baer has no defence and the size- and power advantage he held at the time, would be a disadvantage now.

Well aer by stoppage seems the logical option to be honest for me.

I was thinking of the version of Max Baer who showed up for Primo Carnera.

Wlad outboxes Baer and stops him late. Baer would have slight puncher's chance, but that's all.

Baer definately has a puncher's chance with that overhand right, but given his lack of defence, I think Wlad would pick him off and use his ever-improving footwork to keep away from that big right hand.

Correct. Baer would be out of his league. Bear's lack of defense and jab means Wlad has a field day. Bear did not have much love for boxing. If the going got rough on him, he'd pack it in mentally.

Wlad via mid to late round TKO.
