Baer packed it in against Louis,no argument there. Wlad is not Louis, and NEVER likely to be talked about in the same breathe. Baer took a shellacking from Schmeling in the first part of a very torrid fight ,and came back to ko his man. When past his best he took two hidings from a full of vinegar Lou Nova. No one saw Maxie stretched out on the canvas "corpus mentis". Unlike Wlad who was put into cold storage by moderate fighters. Lack of appetite for battle? Wlad wrote the book.
Baer packed in in vs journeyman Braddock too. Wlad has similar offensive skills to Joe Louis. Bear could not spell jab if you spotted him the " j " and the " a " . Bear would only have a punchers chance here, and it would need to be early. While it is true Bear was gritty vs Schmeling, he had special motivation for that fight and is on quote saying that he wanted to show the world a Jew could defeat a German in a fair fight. Though Bear wasn't 100% Jewish, my point that he had special motivation for this fight is valid.
Well Wlad did get stopped by 3 unrated average fighters Purrity Sanders and Brewster.......and baer is a bigger puncher, better chin and better fighter than all of them. Baer has the power and aggresiveness to force wlad into a panic attack and out of comfort zone. Wlad did get floored staggered badly by the very crude peter, so this one is a toss up IMO. Baer has a live punchers chance, but I will go with Wlad
I'm not really sure if Baer is more durable than the likes of Brewster and Purrity. They took one hell of of shot against much bigger opponents who have a larger emphasis on punching power, due to shorter fights. I'm not sure if he hits harder than Brewster or Sanders, either. I do know that Brewster they are way better than him technically, just watch the film. The only thing he has on them is stamina, really.
brewster technical? LMAO brewster got outboxed and badly beaten on the cards by every good boxer he ever faced. even shufford and ettiene shut him out on the cards. brewster was HORRIBLE against boxers...brewster would never flatten a prime max schmeling the way baer did.
To be honest I dont think Baer even took the Carnera fight seriously. He did not start training properly untill a short time before the fight and it was nearly pulled for fear that Carnera would kill him. It took an effort by Jack Dempsey and others to force him to the gym. Baer's chin was ungodly and you would need a sledgehammer to get his respect. Wlad is not going to be in his comfort zone for ten seconds of this fight and the best he can hope for is a points win of the type he scored in the Peter fight having been knocked down multiple times. So whether Baer puts Wlad to sleep or Wlad survives to take the decision that is prety much how the fight is going to unfold.
An untrained Baer lost a decision to Braddock ,he did not," packed in in" Baers hands both went on him during this fight. Baer had a modicum of Jewish blood ,he wore the Star of David for financial reasons. He was not ,nor did he consider himself a Jew, and he was NOT circumcised.
Having said that Baer was genuinely angry about the treatment of jews in Germany. Is trainers used this and played to it. They made him angry and focused. Probably the only time he ever was.
Have you watched Baer? At least Brewster could keep his hands up. Baer fights with his hands by his sides, flailing like someone who has never boxed a round in his entire life. Speaking of doing HORRIBLE against boxers and losing to Shufford or Ettiene, Baer lost to Tiny Abot (?), Les Kennedy, Risko, Loughran, Schaaf, Uzcudun, 1-9 Willie Davis, Farr 2x and Nova.
