Max Bear vs Rocky Marciano

This would be absolutely brutal.

One of those fights where you are sort of glad that it never did happen.

I would pick Marciano based on intangibles but you never know.

 

what a fight i think Marciano would take it i dont see this going the distance thiugh even though both had chins of granite

 

Max Baer once had dinner with Mario Lanza a great friend and admirer of Rocky's,talk got around to boxing and Marciano in particular ,at first Baer was complimentary about him,then as the wine flowed more freely he made some disparaging remarks about Rocky's abilities compared to his own .Lanza said show me what you mean I'll use Rocky's crouching style and you do what you did.Lanza came in to Baer and managed to land a decent shot that put Maxie on the nearest sofa ,Lanza was ecstatic,both men were the worse for wear ,and no conclusions can be drawn from it ,but I thought it was interesting and rather funny.

Max Baer vs Rocky Marciano would have been a great fight! After a brutal fight, I would pick Rocky, by a TKO around the 7th round.

 

Rocky's work rate too much for Baer.....As Rocky picks up the pace Max slows down

 

Would it have been a version of Frazier vs Foreman?

Max Baer: 6' 2 1/2", 210-215 lbs.
Rocky Marciano: 5' 10 1/2", 185 lbs.

Baer was almost as big as Foreman but Marciano was quite a bit lighter than Frazier.

It looks bad for Marciano.

But Rocky was not Joe Frazier and Baer was George Foreman.

I see Baer maybe rocking, even flooring, Marciano early on but the Rock would have hung on. Ultimately it would have become a test of will and stamina. Here, I see Marciano pulling away from Maxie and winning via late stoppage or decision.

Baer was a beast, you watch the Carnera fight and you see the true power of his right hand, he had Carnera all over the place for pretty much the whole fight, and obviously what happened to Campbell aswell.

But obviously Carnera didn't have Marciano's chin and wasn't the same calibre of fighter. I think Baer would probably put Rocky on the canvas a couple of times with that right hand of his, but I think eventually Rocky would wear him down and stop him late on.

Neither are great technically, but Rocky is under-rated in the technical department and I think his crouching style would make it different for Baer to reach down and tag him enough, and his heart and chin and better stamina would see him through.

 

Just because Baer was close to Foreman's size doesn't mean he has close to Foreman's ability. Both are crude, but Foreman is lightyears ahead in the combination punching and defence (yes, defence) department, as well as power. As for comparing a fat, unmotivated Frazier to Marciano..... :-(

A brutal, and for marciano, probably a bloody fight, but i'm going with rocky by late stoppage.

 

Marciano...in a brawl...
