Max Kellerman disgraces himself once again

Dude if your going to use in a round about way then you might as well not listen or read anything written about boxers.

Max usualy gets on my nerve but the guy is paid to say hot sports opinion. There are times I strongly disagree and there are times I agree with him. But I respect him more for speaking his mind then to listen to other guys who does nothing but kiss ass.

 

I have been critical of Kellerman in the past, but I thought his analysis here was spot-on.

Had he tossed Ortiz a few softballs in the interview then everyone would be complaining that he was on his sack because Ortiz was the HBO house fighter.

 

Keller is a good pitchman who can sell boxing to the general public. Who cares if he doesn't know ****. He's good for the sport.

Its like boxers and boxing fans who give MMA a ration of **** even though all the money that MMA brings to the sport at the grass roots level helps it stay alive. Were it not for MMA guys paying dues at boxing gyms and trainers getting extra work at MMA dojo's the sport would be a lot worse off and far few people would get the opportunity to learn the art of boxing. Yet we still have all the **** talking.

 

I dislike Max but Ortiz's he was not out of line this time. But lets fire him anyways.

 

I don't think Max is all that marketable

 

Kellerman is a tit.

 

He did have a point since Ortiz could have continued – he just didn’t want to cause he felt he couldn’t cope. Does that make him a coward? A coward would have stayed down after the first KD – Ortiz got up and kept trying to fight.

What it does tell me is that he lacks the heart to take what he likes to give out. He did just give up – he just looked desperately unwilling to take punishment or ride a storm. Teddy Atlas said once about fighters needing to keep perspective and remember that a bad moment doesn’t last forever. If Ortiz had accepted he wasn’t banging Maidana out, he could have started moving and boxing smart – but he let himself get overwhelmed rather than just resetting and starting over.

Hopefully he’ll learn, but to give up the way he did makes me think he doesn’t want the guts part of the guts and the glory. Dougie Fischer thought he could face Cotto in a few fights – no way. He’d be crushed.

I can’t stand Max and dislike the way he backs his favourites to the point of ignoring their glaring flaws during a fight. But he was accurate about Ortiz.

 

Honestly, one of Max's better nights.

It's in vogue to hate Max. Yet it you stopped watching with a preconceived hatred the guy is decent.

 

I think Kelleman niche in boxing it to makes uninformed controversial opinions that stir the pot. Sometimes he's right. More often than not he's wrong.

Max has not impressed me with his insight on what's happening in the ring, or on his score cards. Kellerman is at his best in short 1-2 minute segments. The longer he talks, the greater the chance he will say something stupid and kill his credibility.

I do here he is a fine fellow away from the microphone though.

 

Kellerman was in the ring? PBF put him in his place during an interview on ESPN many years ago. Kellerman asked a stupid question and PBF went on a rant and asked Kellerman if he ever boxed. Kellerman's answer was pathetic due to his reply of "I boxed in my basement". This is straight from Kellerman's mouth so I really don't know where you got that information from. Maybe it is true and Kellerman just froze from remembering, but then you are a boxing analyst who should not ge intimidated by a fighter especially if the fighter is being broadcast in another state.

That's twice on this thread I've read someone say that Frazier quit vs Ali, correct me if I'm wrong but I've always thought that Eddie Futch wouldn't let him carry on and Frazier didn't speak to him for years after as a result.
