WTF. Now to be a commentator you have to be a former boxer. He is talking from a fans perspective. And asking questions those paying want to know. Not always the best but he's catching on. How about this only fighters and ex-fighters can buy pay-per views and tickets to fights. That way you can weed out everyone who doesn't know ****. Then start holding these events in basements and garages cause that's all the seats you'll fill.
I agree...too bad half the people in this forum are in the same boat calling out vic ortiz's heart...the guy was DONE...people think these guys are ****ing robots...he was ****ED up...max would rather him go out like rocky cuz he doesn't know how it feels to be beat to ****...how about ortiz getting up from the first knockdown...a flush shot to the chin to floor maidana twice more...people like max and this forum won't be happy til a young promising fighter dies in the ring
I dont see why most of yall hate Kellerman, i thinks the guy is ok, hes not affraid of telling it like it is, he might say some stuf every now and then tha makes him look dumb , but thats everyone . I think hes doing good, i enjoy his little comments and smart ass remarks about fighters :yep
You can take the word "Max" and replace it with "Larry Merchant" and still be talking the truth. Max = young sober Merchant. :yep
No, but you should at least have had real experience in the sport as a cornerman, or boxing journalist. That's how commentators develop the seasoning to have insight!! When you take some punk from a cable access show and put him on TV, this is what you get. Boxing fans would benefit much more from having an experienced, knowledgable boxing man like Al Bernstein replace Merchant.
Merchant was a respected Boxing Journalist long before HBO even existed. Kellerman is an unqualified joke. The guy is awful.
Exactly. And so was Bernstein, and Steve Farhood, and Wally Mathews. Any good announcer has either spent YEARS as a boxing participant of some kind, or as a journalist. Kellerman didn't - which is the key reason why he is as lousy and unqualified as he is.
Yes that would be nice but the network needs to have a hypeman on board to keep things interesting. Big George did a good job while he was there as well as Roy.
I do not understand all that critisism against Ortiz especially by Kellerman. Ortiz fell in the trap set by HBO. HBO adn its audience demand exchanges. They force fighters to go into exchanges in order to satisfy the demand for dramatism. Ortiz could have won if he had used his skills. The cut was horrible and his left side was swelling quickly. It was the right thing to stop the fight and save Ortiz from furthur punishment. He is a young fighter. He has his career ahead. It would not have help him if he had continued fighting under those circumstances.
