Max Kellerman said Golovkin can BEAT Sergio Martinez *VID INTERVIEW*

Yeah it was funny that Kellerman was talking about Golovkin in terms similar to those he used to describe Kirkland during the same segment in the Martinez-Dzinziruk fight. That made me think HBO might be serious about giving him dates and building him up for a Martinez showdown, but Golovkin's contract situation is such a mess that I worry we may never get to see that fight.

 

I also didn't realize that Golovkin walked around so lightly. I kind of thought his best chance at getting a big fight in North America was with Bute or Dirrell simply because his past success could help promote such a bout, but it sounds like he'd be too undersized.

Kellerman isn't exactly good @ picking prospects...
Remember P. Williams, Katsidis, Kirkland & now Golovkin.

Golovkin's amateur pedigree is much better than any of those guys though. I know that doesn't always translate into professional success, but given the extent to which he's been avoided in Europe, I'd say there's reason to believe he's pretty damn good. I also don't think Williams really belongs on that list; he did very well for himself up to the second Martinez fight.

 

Williams managed to win some fight's indeed (Some ?able), But Max pumped him as the second coming... for a very long time.
(Up until the second he was knocked unconscious)

As for Golovkin I am very interested in seeing him fight on TV here against better opp.

 

Golovkin's the real deal. I really hope his contract situation gets worked out so we can see him fight in the U.S. and he can get the exposure and opportunities he deserves. He's way too good to be stuck fighting journeyman in relative anonymity.

 

Since we were just talking about this earlier in the week, I'm curious if you were happy with the coverage he received. I was pleasantly surprised Kellerman spoke so highly of him, and to the extent that Max's "opinions" sometimes reflect the HBO matchmaking line, I hope this means they plan to air his fights in the near future.

 

I don't dislike him, but please list and rank Golovkin's 5 best wins...

Only guys at middleweight I'd really pick to beat him would be: Martinez, Williams, Sturm. But he has not achieved enough to be a top 7 middleweight.

Pirog, Sylvester, or Rubio would make for good tests.

Kellerman does push sometimes guys in order to build them up for HBO, so I'd definitely take Max mentioning him as bullish for Golovkin's chances of getting some real coverage. While it'd be tampering for promoters to start officially courting Golovkin now, I'd have to think Golden Boy might be very interested in bringing him over since their planned push for Jacobs has been set back for at least the near future.

 

Goes alright this Golovkin. Given time could be anything.

 

This is funny. During the last Martinez telecast Max did his little skit where he rambled off the top six or eight middle weights and he never mentioned Golovkin (they didn't mention Lemieux either and that was before his loss to Rubio).

 

Let me guess, HBO recently signed Golovkin...

 

He's fighting Kassim Ouma in Panama soon... I hope Max doesn't jinx em.. And even if he does win that, WBA orders him to defend his belt against another unbeaten middleweight whose name i can't spell (Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam) who's pretty good..
