I really don't like max but you could tell in the corner at 9th round he didn't have much left... saying he quit is abit harsh though . he tried his best and just didn't have anything left wouldn't say that's quitting sometimes you hit a wall it is what it is.

What are we up to right now....4 or 5 deaths this year? Not enough for some?

Gvodsyk was certainly discouraged in the corner after the ninth round. If he wanted to quit that would of been the opportune time to do it. Instead he came out for the tenth and absorbed more punishment until the ref stopped the massacre. So how did he quit? If you want to see a recent example of quitting look no further than Chazz Witherspoon during his fight with Usyk. Chazz knew he would have been brutalized in the next round, instead he quit in the corner.

This forum alone has it's fair share.Threads only this week about attitudes towards fighters risking their life and being called demeaning names when their opponent has made it difficult or dangerous to carry on.
Why on earth should they care anyway? How they like to flatter themselves by saying "I've lost my respect for him" or " I won't be following him again" as if their ridiculous and miniscule opinions actually mean anything or their fandom is actually appreciated.
There may not be much more boxing can do safety wise but it looks like a certain number of fans and commentators need to rethink their attitudes.

Very well said, boxing doesn’t need those fans anyway. The sport is better off without them. They are just like the buffoons that start booing by the 3rd round at a fight if it’s not a slugfest.

    That's two completely different questions:
    Did he quit?
Should he quit (in a situation like that)?

And if he quit (I'm going to rewatch the fight carefully to be sure) he did absolutely the right thing.

I'd love nothing more than to see Max Kellerman thrown in the ring right in between Gvozdyk and Beterbiev, and kick back with some popcorn and gleefully watch them throttle him senseless.

Being dejected in the face of almost assured destruction in front of family, friends, and fans, in the biggest fight of your life, while getting mercilessly pummeled by one of the most powerful beasts in the sport, while exhausted, isnt the same as quitting and that word shouldn't even be brought up in this context. Let alone for this same dejected warrior to then courageously face his fate by marching forward and going out swinging like he did the next round... for people to bring up quitting is absurd, yet unfortunately the typical garbage one expects to hear from the boxing community.

Max also said Salido quit when Roman beat him to the canvas.
At least that time Max corrected himself. But it shows the kind of man he is.

Thanks. Yeah me too. Gvozdyk displayed admirable courage and gave it everything he had and he has nothing to be ashamed about. He took a lot of seriously heavy blows to head and body (and those right hands downstairs were some of the heaviest rips to the body I've seen in a long time and it's a testament to his toughness he was able to withstand them) and they took a lot out of him.

And FTR, upon second viewing, CST is actually right about him getting clobbered with a lot of rabbit shots (very heavy ones too) albeit I'm not saying it was intentional on Beterbiev's part and that and all the rough-housing from someone as freakishly strong as Beterbiev also contributed to taking a toll on him physically as well.

The 9th round in particular was brutal and he got clobbered with a lot of extremely heavy thumping shots upstairs and down in that round and he simply could take no more physically or mentally by the time the ref waved it off because all the fight had been beaten out of him by that point.

Did he quit? No I don't think he did.

But if he did, do I give a ****? Absolutely ****ing not and no one should be shitting on him for doing so in light of recent events, especially given he fought his heart out and took a lot of seriously heavy blows from one of the sports most savage punchers.
