Is he getting better or did he finally just wake up and realise he better start applicating Eastern European types in boxing? His description of Lomencheko last weekend, was perhaps his best work in years. I'm actually starting to like him a bit. A decade ago, Kellerman went out of his way to dis non-Western born fighters. He was anti-Klitschko, and not very complimentary towards Dariusz Michalczewski, Ibragimov, ect... Now he's embracing Eastern Euro fighter with complimentary things to say. I wonder if this has to do with who HBO stars in boxing are, ( Kovalev GGG, Lomencheko ) , or did he evolve out of bigotry? What say you?
It's an HBO mandate... Every couple of years they have to hype up a crop so the Sheep contunue to tune in.
Max Kellerman is a Great. I would prefer listening to him more than any other person in boxing. Kellerman is obviously required to promote the in-house HBO fighters these days, but it's easy to listen past that, and therein lies great ****ysis and understanding of boxing from the part of Max; he appreciates great fighters regardless of race or country of origin.
I've never had a problem with Max, sure he didn't used to be as glowing in his praise of EE fighters as he is now, but for the record, Loma, GGG and Kovalev are a lot more exciting to watch than Wlad, Dariusz and Ibragimov and are more skilled all around.
kov, 3G and Loma are light years ahead of those other crop of EE's you mentioned! That's why he's mentioning them and praising them. These guys are top shelf, P4P fighters. They all have the potential of being in the running for best of this era and more!
I don't like it when asked a tough, divisive question, he usually goes for the safe middle of the road answer to appease both sides. Fu*k that.
I like him but hate when he uses big words in asking questions to people who barely speak English. Use basic English when a guy barely speaks English Max.
He is competent. Not overly great but gets the job done although he is rather formauliac. His questions seem telegraphed and loaded. I thought his interviews with Glen Tapia after his KO loss were disrespectful. His fight commentary is much better than his interview skils IMO.
Well back then they tended to be more robotic and straight up and down, I am generalizing of course, but I don't recall any Eastern Euro guys who were more athletic, and slick with their style like a Pirog, or Lomachenko back then.
he seems to have evolved, he was very young a decade ago and far more often talked out his ass. i mean he used to be a rapper for god sakes :rasta
I like Max. It's easier to sculpt when you have clay and its probably easier for him to say great things about boxers when they are in exciting fights. As far as his post fight interviews, I'm always amazed when boxers seem composed coming straight out of a fight when they must still have so much adrenaline pumping. Probably has something to do with being a pro.
Kellerman was really humbled when Roy Jones started getting KOed in just about every fight. Going to be interesting to see how he reacts to Ward getting savagely KOed by Kovalev.
