A great shot film/ana.lysis on Schmeling - Louis I. The Floyd Mayweather archetype was right there in Schmeling 100 years ago but I keep hearing boxers evolve and these guys couldn't tangle with the guys of today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKVsMCUiiBA Don't know how to embed. Can somebody embed?
I watched most of his videos after I saw his Bruce Lee video. Don't watch much breakdowns but his are fascinating.
Did you see the part where Maxie looked like a guy from todays era , with the shoulder roll and the evolved skills and the punching with the defence and the sharp shooting with the counters that only evolved in todays ara but for that one night in Yankee stadium , Yankee Maxie looked like a todays era fighter.
Before there was Floyd Mayweather there was Max Schmeling. The man with a plan. Impeccable performance.
A great source to go to about that first fight and Max's strategy is Schmelings own autobiography...it's fascinating....and not a bunch of egotistical BS either. I so admire Schmeling for taking on the dreaded Brown Bomber and being so cool in devising and carrying out his plan....and so fearlessly.
This was a Buster Douglas kind of event for Schmeling where he just put everything together perfectly.
My question is, was Max Schmeling the German Buster Douglas, or was Buster the black Max Schmeling? How the hell could this be the same Max Schmeling that got bullied and bludgeoned by Max Baer? And how could those Sharkey fights been such close affairs for Schmeling. This performance vs Louis in '36 shows a tactical master at work. Oh well, that's boxing for you.
It was a great night for the Max and an education for Joe, Max put it all together that night, very smart and thought out. Max would do well against many of the ATG's that were vulnerable to right hands. Good Stuff
