Max replaces Marciano as champion from 1953 until Rocky's last fight in 1956 . Marciano does not exist.

How would Champion Max [,the prime Schmeling ,] do against Rocky's opposition?

    Better, worse, about the same?

I think the Ezzard Charles who took Rocky the distance in their first meeting might have beaten him, but it would be a close fight. Walcott was probably done by spring of 1953 after that last hurrah in september of '52, so Max probably beats him one way or another. He also beats ****ell and Lastarza. Moore is tossup.

Schmeling gets robbed by the American judges.

I see Schmeling as the second-best heavyweight of the 1930's,

but he could blow fights. If the Sharkey of 1932 could manage to get a decision, albeit perhaps unearned, certainly any version of Walcott might also.

Schmeling lost badly to Hamas in 1934, so him getting upset by one of Marciano's opponents would certainly be on the table.

Hard to imagine it being Don C though.

*No one asked, but I can see Don C lasting nine or more rounds with Max. In fact, I think that is about where he gets stopped.

    You're right :good

    No one asked.

But yes, C*ckell might go 8 or 9 with Schmeling who was a methodical finisher not a dynamic one.

OTOH C*ckell wouldn't go 3 with Liston, Foreman,Lewis , and probably not more than 5 with Dempsey. imo.

Does anyone think that Roland Lastarza and Max Schmeling might actually be a pretty decent fight?

Maybe Max could beat a 1953 version of Walcott, though I'm not sure of it. If Marciano didn't exist, then maybe there would have been extra life in Mr. Cream that wasn't knocked out of him by the non-existant Marciano. Let's say that old age caught up with Joe...maybe Schmeling W15 Walcott (maybe). Charles, of the 1st Marciano bout would have edged Max IMO...title reign over. If MS had fought Don C first, he would have had a field day...countering Don silly with the right and eventually getting a stoppage in round 6. Roland LaStarza would have been interesting, again, if he had fought Max before Charles did.,...I think that for the first 13 rounds it would have been relatively close, but like with Young Stribling, Max would have gotten to Rollie, finishing much stronger and perhaps getting a 14th round tko. A steady barrage of accurate right hands would have accounted for the stoppage in the late rounds 12 and 13, with LaStarza getting his ass handed to him in the 14th, with a kd sealing the deal.
Maybe a rematch would have occured between Ezz and Max...and depending on whether Charles had anything left,...

I think that he would drop 1-2 fights personally.

I think prime Schmeling was a better overall fighter than Rocky. However I could easily see him being perplexed in a fight with Walcott and Charles. I think he beats LaStarza, ****ell and Moore but splits fights with both Walcott and Charles.

This is also a very reasonable view.

he'd lose a couple. as well as being more consistent, rocky had superior workrate to max and that was hugely important to him beating those guys.

schmelling v moore would be a slow but very interesting fight
