A way way past it Ali ate Shavers big right hand all night long like no other I've seen. I really can't see Max troubling Ali all too much at all.
I think Ali gave rounds away to Folley by default, he never felt threatened in any way and was confident he could stop Zora when he opted to open up.Just my take on it. I don't see a lot of similarities between Zora and the German TBH. Folley was very upright, almost in the old English style.
Quarry was an outstanding counter puncher I would never refute that. I just think Ali fought other fighters I would compare more so to Max. That's all. And as I stated I'm not picking Schmeling to win.
Then you overvalue power, to a magnificent extent. Shavers would not have got a much better opportunity at the title, in any other era!
Not really, that kind of power is only overrated if you can't use it. Shavers did use it aplenty as he was landing that monster right hand all night. Ali was tough beyond belief even in such poor condition.
My point is that the level of the level of people that he was losing to, and having controversial fights against, had fallen well below the Schmelling zone! The fact that he had to beat Spinks in the rematch merely shows how far he had fallen!
At 36 when he was way past his prime and lost interest in fighting, Joe Louis kayoed the great Jersey Joe Walcott. When Ali was 36 he was getting beat by a guy who had 7 fights. There are levels. Ali never fought anybody remotely like Louis or Schmelling -- Foreman and Frazier (while great) were very predictable (and somewhat wild) and were not precise or surgical with their punching. Schmelling has a similar Bob and Weave style to Frazier and he combined that with first-class counterpunching ability. You talk about the quality of Ali and Louis': how many disputed decisions are there on Louis' record (besides Walcott part 1)? Ali lost all 3 Ken Norton fights, he lost the Jimmy Young fight and the 2nd Frazier fight with less biased judging could've played out differently. Louis put away all his opponents there wasn't a shred of doubt that he was the top heavyweight of his era.
None of the guys you mentioned can even be compared to Schmelling (in terms of counterpuncher). You're talking out your ass.
I think you'd like it better in the General Forum. Btw, is this an alt of someone that's been banned? There was one moron a bit back that sounded much like you do but then got banned. I think the name was Journeyman. He also thought that the only way to lift up Louis, his favourite, was to slag Ali and sound like some angry teenager while doing so.
Ali is a pretty bad matchup for Max. Schmeling prefers a slower pace, it benefits him much more than the blazing speed and fast pace Ali will bring. Ali TKO8
