I would make Marciano the favorite based on his durability and non stop relentless two fisted attack. Schmeling was a crafty fighter but I don’t think he can keep Rocky off of him.
Didnt we just have this fight recently Anyway, Marciano would pretty obviously win this, and mess Schmeling up bad. Marciano is extremely proven against counter punchers, and is the stronger, tougher man in there with Schmeling, who cant stand with Marciano but cant move away from him either. If Schmeling doesnt let himself go down early, he's in for a trip to the hospital.
It is the reverse, if anything. Marciano sprinted up the same mountain that Schmeling fell off of. Schmeling had mixed success at the top, and Marciano is the most dominant champion in history.
Marciano wins. Max is crafty and tough and Tocky is going to pay dearly for each round, but Marciano relentless' attacks eventually take their tool. Late stoppage.
Marciano axes him down. Schmeling isn’t fleet enough of foot and doesn’t have a great jab, Marciano would be able to close the distance too often and that’s where he does the damage, Schmeling can’t keep it long for long enough to get more work off than Marciano or to get a rest. Yes, you need to be able to fight Marciano off at times, but the bulk of the fight should be done behind the long punches. Marciano gets inside far too often and it takes its toll on Schmeling who succumbs around the 12th round, yes Schmeling has a great counter right and may put Marciano down, but I don’t see him stopping Marciano, Marciano recovered fast and did make adjustments contrary to popular belief, he’d adopt the cross arm guard to block the right and he’d duck to his right and counter Schmeling to close the distance. Schmeling is far too flat footed and doesn’t have the variety of combinations to keep Marciano off or time him, he has the counter right, but once Marciano takes that away, there’s nothing Schmeling can resort to to keep Marciano off, Marciano is far more of a 2 handed puncher and would eat Schmeling up on the inside by getting low and coming up with combinations body and head, he’s far more fluid in the pocket and would use that head movement and punch off of it on the inside.
Max has the tools in the toolbox to give Rocky a fit, could he survive the constant pressure Marciano would apply for 15 rounds?. I kinda lean towards no.
I doubt Max survives 15 rounds. Rocky wasn't the most polished boxer ever; but he wasn't some sort of slow lumbering brute trying to catch flies, while Max dances around. Rocky's relentless fast pressure is going to get Max soon or later.
The optimist in me says that Marciano finds away and wears Schmeling down for a late tko. The realist in me tells me that Max outboxes him and pounds him to submission before the fifteenth. Too nimble and too deadly for Marciano to overwhelm with his wild offense.
I’ve always liked Max in this fight. His track record vs come forward pressure fighters is stellar. Knocking out granite chinned Risko, overpowering the game Mickey Walker, and winning two out of 3 (should have been all 3 pretty bad rendering by Spanish referee in Spain) against Uzcudon. Max also has the singular best win of either man in beating prime Louis over 12. Obviously Marciano has his supporters on here for this fight and I wouldn’t begrudge anyone picking him based on their own assessment of the bout - but if their was ever a fight where I would lay sneaky money on the underdog this would be it.
