I am not sure that Tunney would stick and move vs Schmeling, since that was not his usual game. He would see Schmeling's right as a threat, but he might still be inclined to go semi toe to toe with him, like he did in the Heeney fight. That might see him in trouble, because Tunney was fairly orthodox, and Schmeling built his style around tripping up the orthodox. This is a difficult fight to call, because you have to expect the unexpected, with both of these guys!
Tunney was quite brainy himself though and I could see him switching to more of a stick'n'move when he sees him getting nowhere otherwise. He might have lost already a few rounds too much to win by then though.
I think Schmeling is almost tailor made for Tunney. Either Max uses his in pocket head movement style, or his outside right hand counter style. Either way, it doesn’t match well for him with Tunneys mobility, speed, hand speed, and punching style. Tunney would beat him to the punch more times then not, winning exchanges, and pacing himself smartly.
