    He was seen as something of a back number in America I think.
    He hadn't lost in his last 4 fights having beaten Uzcudun and earlier drawn with him ,he had also ko'd Hamas and tko'd Neusel .
    The problem was, all these fights had been outside the US,whereas he two most recent defeats had been in Philly [Hamas ,]and Yankee Stadium NY [Baer,]and this is probably what registered with the US fans.
    Schmeling was only 30, so he was probably not far past his peak if at all.

    All good, just an honest misreading.

    My point was that Ingo often gets looked at as little more than a journeyman with a big right, but he was competing with many of the best fighters of his time and came out ahead more often than not. I don't think he was an ATG or anything, but better than the average opinion makes him out to be.

    Schmeling far outclassed him, though, just better all around.
