I like this match. Two short lived champions but both with big upset wins. Both had power in the right. Schmeling was the smarter of the two, but also had a shaky chin.

    who ya got ?

    Schmeling 70-30

Johansson has the heavier right hand. If he hands early and hard, Max may not recover and will be stopped.

However, the best Schmeling should be able to avoid Igno's Bingo and wear him down with right hand counters.

    Schmeling tko 10

I will only use strong language cuz I can't stand the myth surrounding Ingo. Schmeling would right-hand counter punch Johansson to DEATH. Johansson would have the **** beat out of him.

Those are my true feelings. I should elaborate though. I think Schmeling would jab, jab, jab. Ingo would eat that for a few rounds and land a good right hand, either seriously staggering or maybe knocking down Schmeling. However, Schmeling had heart that Ingo didn't have. Schmeling would right-hand counter Ingo after that over and over again, and there'd be nothing Ingo could do about it. I do think Schmeling would gradually chop down the Swede. I'll say KO 8.

I agree. But nothing else was. People always say he had a good jab. But he had an awful jab to be entirely honest. I've never understood why people thought his jab was so amazing.

Just think about it. The two are not remotely in the same class. Schmeling fought 70 times, winning 56 bouts, and 40 by knockout. All over a period of 17 years. On the other hand, Ingo fought a grand total of 28 fights, not even a good record today, over a period of 10 years. Then there's the opposition. Schmeling fought many of the heavyweight elite of the day, meeting Sharkey (2x), Baer, Louis (2x), and in addition to that many other B-levelers in Johnny Risko, Paulino Uzcudun (2x), Young Stribling, and Ben Foord. Johansson's only claim to fame are knockouts over Eddie Machen and Floyd Patterson. He couldn't replicate his success with Patterson, and grew worse and worse as the trilogy went on, and most of the people I've spoken to agree that he never could have beaten Eddie Machen again either. Aside from that, Johansson has several wins over top European fighters like Henry Cooper, Joe Bygraves, Hein ten Hoff, Joe Erksine, Heinz Neuhaus, Dick Richardson, and Brian London. Other than Cooper, and possibly London, I don't know anyone who takes that lot too seriously.

At best Schmeling is probably a low A-level fighter and Johansson probably a low B or high C.

Btw, as an irrelevant but interesting note, if Machen fought Johansson, it would probably be quite similar to a Schmeling-Johansson fight.

Could be. It’s reasonable to favor Schmeling. I think both men have a shot at this one
