Who would've won had Schmeling gotten the title shot instead of Louis?

You'd have to favor Schmeling, but I don't think it's as clear as made out.

At the risk of repeating the previous poster, Schmeling would obviously have to be the favorite, but we would need to hold the fight to find out!

Braddock, has the opportunity to defend his title. And hits hard enough to bother Schmeling. Plus weird things have happened to Der Max in past title fights.

Indeed, but I have a feeling that we would see the Schmeling of the Louis fight, at the party!

If I am right, then Braddock would get dominated!

Yep, could happen to even a part-time Dock-worker.

I don't think Schmeling has much of a chance of KOing Braddock. Only Louis managed that.

Going against the grain of this thread, I think Braddock pulls off another one of his miracle upsets. The power of his right probably scores a knockdown or two and makes Schmeling cautious. Braddock edges a decision

    Braddock & Schmeling similar in size & reach.....6'-1-2", 75-76 " reach.
    Der Max 192 lbs
    James J. 197 lbs.

I read that the reason Schmeling was passed over for a title shot was because many thought that it was a big possibility that Schmeling would beat Braddock and they didn't want the heavyweight title in Germany due to the political atmosphere of the time.

Hard to say, it was scheduled, but Braddock pulled out with a hand injury. Braddock did have a lot of hand injury problems though.

Braddock was a sloppy operator who left holes for both the right and the left. I take Schmeling 9 times out of 10. I don't think that Jim's wing and a prayer game gets home often on Max.

My call as well r u...I can't tell you how many times I've called this one...the post '36 Schmeling would have been on a roll and a half after that sensational showing vs Louis.....he would have controlled and dominated Braddock...and taken the heavyweight title back to Germany & the Fuhrer....it couldn't have been avoided by Max....imagine the pressure he would have been under by the Nazis.
