Max Schmeling .Vs. Jim Braddock

I could possibly cite the Stribling fight where Stribling verry much acted the spoiler and tried to neutralise Schmeling by holding.

 

To be honest with you there isn't really an entirely satisfactory style for fighting Max Schmeling unless you have the tools to ambush him early as Louis did.

Although Braddock was good in close that left hook is going to be working to his body all night long backed up by a vicious uppercut in close. If Schmeling had to press the fight I don't think he would have a problem with that either.

 

I posted this thread about a year ago ,no one seemed to give a ****.

For what its worth I think Max would have been the first man to regain the title , and this would obviously have had an dramatic effect on his future standing.

 

There are a few interesting fights from that era that nearly happened.

 

When Louis performed exhibitions in England ,during the war he had to threaten not to go on, to break down the segregated US serviceman's rule .
"Dont bring that Jim Crow **** over into a foreign country".

 

I remember it well, and I think I commented and said the same thing you're claiming right now. I think Schmeling would have indeed regained the title and with it, may have secured a higher all time standing for many decades to come.

 

mcvey, I answered your thread then the same as I did a couple of pages ago, by opining that, for what it's worth, IMO, Schmeling was screwed out of a rightful title shot, and that he would have "beat down and stopped Braddock and indeed become the first man to regain the heavyweight title...again, in my opinion, there would be no way for Braddock to beat the man who stopped Louis.
