I would add that Sharkey and Uzcdun were both generaly around the 200lb mark at their peaks.

Ali and Holmes both have more impressive KOs than Schmelling does an against bigger men. Schmelling Ko'd Louis but that was a sustained beating where Schmelling landed 100s of rights.

A lot of this is down to style. Schmeling was a defensive counterpuncher who fought at a measured pace. While he took rounds to put his oponents away he generaly left them a physical wreck.

Steve Hamas was the 28 year old number 1 contender going into the second Schmeling fight. After it he was a virtual criple who never steped into the ring again.

Joe Louis got his face beaten into an unrecognisable pulp by Schmeling in the first fight. He was not able to show himself in public for two weeks after the fightand when he did he looked like he had been through a car windscreen.

Schmelling did not seem to have 1 punch KO power from what I've seen of him.

Proof that Schmeling could turn tiger when he wanted to is the Heuser fight. Adolph Heuser went after Schmeling in the first round. Schmeling not only knocked him out could but actualy killed him. Fortunately medics at the scene were able to get Heusers heart beating again.

He had a great right hand counter no doubt. but he isn't going to get enough of those past Nortons world class jab

Schmelings overhand right was the perfect punch for countering a jab with. That is why he beat Louis the first time round.
