If Schemling could KO Louis, he could KO Holmes.
If Brian Nelson could beat Holmes, so could Schemling.

Snipes didn`t seem quicker than Schmeling to me at all.

    Come on now!

Schmeling was two orders of magnitude better than Snipes or Shavers.

When you watch one of Schmeling's best performances, you are watching artistry!

You're watching a guy painting on a canvas of pasty breadline Euros. Does Max even make a dent in the athletic era of the sport? I think not. Let's be real.

Stiff hips. No wiggle. Lacks swagger.

It's true. Schmeling >>>> Shavers and especially Snipes. If Shavers didn't have power, he'd be no comparison to Schmeling, legacy or H2H

Schmeling was 6'1 and 192 when he got his best ever win over Louis.

Shavers was 6'0 and 210 when he got his best win over over Norton.

Weaver was 6'1 and 207 when he got his best win over Tate.

Given is frame, I don't think it is at all out of the bounds to say that if he was lifting weights and takings supplements like a modern fighter, Schmeling could get to an easy 200-205.

By contrast, Michael Moorer at 6'2 started his career at 172 and got his best career win against Holy at 214

Holyfield started his career at 177 and got his best win against Tyson at 215

David Haye at a suspicious 6'3 started his career at 191 and got his best win against Valuev at 217

Chris Byrd at 6'2" started his career at 169 and got his best win over VitKlit at 210.

MICHAEL SPINKS at 6'2 and some change started his career at 165 and got his career best win over Holmes 199.

Seems like it would be pretty easy to put on a few pounds.

As for Shavers being a harder hitter, Schmeling was almost indescribably better in every other category, and had a darn good right hand himself.

To me, this is a good fight.

Can you picture Schmelings fights with an electric guitar playing in the background? Exactly.

    Stiff hips?

I admit, he wasn’t funky or hip hop enough. I guess you can’t picture him fighting to James Brown or Method Man. And of course, can’t picture him fighting to an electric guitar either. That’s pretty much it for captivating sounds of my childhood that resembled “cool.” And since he doesn’t fit into any one of those buckets, I’ve concluded that he can be nothing but a bum (who somehow beat Joe Louis because whatever.)

This. Max wasn't just an outstanding athlete, but also an excellent boxer. He was easily twice the boxer either Snipes or Shavers were.

Quarry completely flattened Shavers and I rate Schmeling above Quarry.

In the first Louis match a lot of people including Louis himself had foolishly written off Schmeling as a has been and a non-threat. However, Blackburn warned Louis that Schmeling was a very crafty counter puncher and that he'd get knocked out if he underestimated him and of course Louis got a complete beating.

Schmeling could win this fight for sure. Schmeling threw a very straight right hand and had impeccable timing. He would catch Holmes often. Schmeling baited many opponents because he understood range and he was both patient and confident. He would stand in range and waive his head around with subtle movement - like a matador enticing a bull then when his opponent would reach with his jab he’s strike like cobra with a far harder and accurate right hand counter.
He was a good athlete his game was just predicated more on timing and game plan - think Kostya Tszyu.
Larry Had better wheels, and faster hands and a much better jab but the jab plays into Schmeling’s hand.
Good fight. If Schmeling could beat Louis convincingly I don’t see why he couldn’t beat Holmes.
Holmes had great chin, great recuperating ability as well this would be great match up. Two guys that usually ended up in good fights would not disappoint here
