I think its safe to assume that if Langford fought Joe Louis twice, and Max Baer, he might have more stoppages on his record too.

Indeed sir. But unlike Herr Max, he wouldn't have limited himself to just one or two bouts. He would have fought Louis and Baer probably around 4, 5 and 6 times. How many knockdowns and knockouts would Schmeling have suffered with that kind of schedule?

Keep in mind that Schmeling fought a mere 472 rounds in 70 bouts. Langford fought 2,565 rounds in 317 bouts. Give Max almost 5 times as many fights and perhaps he gets knocked down MORE than 30 times.

Schmeling had 70 fights, how many times was he on the floor?

I don't know. Do you? And again, how many times might he have hit the floor had he had almost FIVE times as many bouts and over 2,500 rounds? And against as many champions and top contenders as Langford fought?

    Yes,I do.

How many of those were against Heavyweights?

I must go ,London tomorrow, in the Jazz club, and drink will be taken.
Point being, who is to say Schmeling's chin was inferior to Langford's?

I always took it as agiven that it was.

Nobody counted 10 over Langford untill Harry Wills KOd him in 1918.

Given the number of fights he had against heavyweight punchers, this is incredible.

Schmeling was a bit limited but his chin was pretty terrific to me ... he took bombs v.s. Baer that would have crippled many men ... Langford took a tremendous punch as well ... both were very , very tough men.

Let us just say that Langford's chin was FAR more battle-tested. By a country mile. Completely inarguable.

Being stopped twice by the biggest puncher you faced. Stopped by a welterweight when you have 53 fights under your belt ,and floored over 30 times means that it is not only arguable, it is highly debatable. Plus Langford retired in some fights when he was in imminent danger of being stopped.

How old was Langford when Young Peter Jackson stopped him? 21-22 maybe? And what did he weight? Under 160 pounds? I think so! I see you do not factor this in. Why I am not surprised? I guess excuses for age and a low weight only apply to Jack Johnson…in some cases for Johnson there is no listed weight. You just pick a date prior to it! I will contiune to hold you in contempt with your narrow minded one side analysis. Lucky for you I am too busy to post daily. We know you have to reply last. I often don’t read them. This post is for the others who do.

Once again, Langford had ( you count them ) about 100 matches from 1907-1916, and was never stopped. Not once despite facing numerous punchers.

Had Shcmeling fought the exact amount of fights Langford during the above dates ( 1907-1916 ) did he’s getting stopped, likely multiple times. As it is he was 1-2 vs. Baer and Louis, with 2 KO’s against.

Heck—Schmeling was taken out in one round by Daniels in 1928, 4 years into his career. He has two 1st round KO losses, and a 2nd round stoppage loss. Sure—His chin was as good as Langford’s. NOT.
