    He didn't push Louis's jab aside in their first fight ,he took it then countered over it he knew he was going to get marked up around the eyes as he later said he was prepared to "lose his left eye", ie to have it close on him. Max took plenty of punishment in his win that night, mostly from Louis's jab.
    Raging Bull had produced an excellent scenario ,and others have countered with equally logical opposite alternatives.
    I'll go for a squeaking dec win for Tommy.

    If they were both at their best, Max would probably beat him up.

    Max Schmeling is - and always was - seriously under-estimated.
