Too slow, too linear, too stiff.

You keep calling Schmeling stiff in every thread that includes his name. I wonder, why? He wasn't slow, he wasn't stiff, he wasn't unathletic. I don't get you...

No, he wasn't. Unless you compare him to a Tony Tubbs. It's all about context.

Not really, Schmeling isn't unathletic or stiff compared to anybody.

Glad you mentioned that, he looks awful on video, but maybe I'm missing something? His opponent fights like an old cowboy in a bar room fight in an old western on tv, yet Schmeling looks worse. Size would be a factor, but not as much as speed, quickness, skill, etc.

In the 2nd, after they both "pose" in front of each other, MB throws a telegraphed "reaching" hook (maybe a jab, but sloppy at best), MS backs up, both feet side by side making it impossible for him to throw a counter punch with any power. If MB threw something like that at a good boxer, the opponent would either roll or pull back, counter him, and make MB wish he could box. They might have been good for their time, but their time passed 80-90 years ago. Even at that, it's hard to believe that there weren't better fighters out there who didn't get a chance...

Both Tubbs and Witherspoon could beat Schmeling and Baer as warm up for their fight.

I said you many times in many threads that Baer fight is the worst Schmeling performance filmed. Why don't you watch his fight against Joe Louis? Or against Stribling? 2nd Sharkey? Walker one? How about Hamas or Uzcudun? I said it multiple times to you and you keep posting the same ****.

Tubbs defeated some very good HW's and lasted to the final round with others. Schmeling goes down hard within 5 rounds.

This is not exactly a strong endorsement, when you are matching him against somebody like Schmeling!

Why? Schmeling was a very good boxer himself, and defeated some good boxers.

Same same. Comparing apples to apples. Or apples to schnitzels.

Schmeling was a great boxer himself, and regularly defeated good boxers!

He would have cried with shame, if somebody had mentioned lasting to the final bell, as one of his career accomplishments!
