A 21st century Klit vs. a 1938 Max? Klit. A 1938 Klit vs. a 21st century Max? Max. (maybe worse than the first above matchup). I see we're back on comparing eras again. My $0.02
Size difference a little too much for Max I think. Baer who fought dirty against Max eventually got him late. This may be same ending.

Max could take a hell of a beating as seen in the Baer fight. Great chin, great defense, great countering ability. Too hard of a pick for me. Skill goes to Schmeling but idk how he would do with VK's jab.
Max has the skill and most important toughness to go the distance. He is better as a boxer and very intelligent. But Vitali is a Beast, and will hurt Max throughout and might even be busier. I see him eeking out a decision against Max. If they fought more than once, Max would win.
Vitali all the way. Schmeling was skilled, no doubt, but the way he charged in head first against guys like Baer and got tagged over and over leaves me in no doubt that the giant Klitschko would make mincemeat of him. Baer's size was troublesome to Schmeling, and we're turning a 15lb disadvantage to a 60lb one. Vitali is also much more skilled than a guy like Baer. It's like saying a modern LHW could fight Vits and have success. No way.
Size doesn't always win fights, but Vitali wrote the book on fighting tall and using distance to great effectiveness. This is simply a case of a great big man beating a great smaller one.
Max better endurance, Max better boxer, good puncher, he takes vitality late in the fight when vitality tires
