Buddy was quoted as saying that he told Maxim he was stopping the fight and Maxim said no, he said he told him again he was stopping it and again Maxim said no, so Buddy just went and told the ref anyway. The kid still wanted to keep fighting after the 11th. Too tough for his own good. Not only do I feel terrible for the Dadashev family, I feel just awful for Buddy too. What a sad, horrible ordeal.
Rest In Peace Max. This is the worst part of this sport I love so much. Remember this when you talk **** about fighters quitting or sucking or whatever. These guys are warriors and deserve our respect.
RIP Max. I have decided after a lifetime of watching boxing and watching my father suffer the effects of pugilista dementia that I can no longer watch a “ sport “ that so endangers the lives of such brave young men. I saw my first ring fatality in person as a young boy when Hector Thompson ( my avatar ) fought an American named Chuck Wilburn. It was terrible. Just a personal decision and one that I have made with a lot of thought. I am in no way saying boxing should be banned or telling anyone else what to watch but I can no longer justify watching a sport in which such brave young men take such risks with their health. Cheers All.
Numerous instances on this forum, where haters talk about this guy quit, or that guy has no heart. If a guy knows it's not his night, why take punishment? It only takes one shot, not even a hard one, to destroy someones life.
Oh, this is so sad. Truly awful. Man, the kid wanted it so bad. He wasn't going to quit. He was going to bring his family over and make a better life for them. Just terrible news. What I have seen in a number of these types of situations is what unfolds typically is similar. Not every time obviously but many times it is similar. What happened to Dadashev and Mago are very similar. You could see that they were game as hell. Both undefeated. They were not going to give up, stop, unless you stopped them. When you see a fighter slowing down, and taking hard shots, they have to make it mandatory that a doctor closely examine the fighter as soon as this is apparent. You cannot let the rounds pile up along with the shots he is taking. Be on the safe side. Stop it early and disappoint some fans and maybe the fighter. As I remember a trainer telling his fighter when he stopped a fight one time, "You can fight another day." Corners have to be more responsible but so many cornermen are in it for the money and don't worry about their fighter. This means refs, doctors and even judges maybe should be intervening on behalf of the fighter.
