Both guys' shots just look very ...noodly.

They must have the heat cranked up @ the USC Soviet Wings venue (it is -11 °C in Moscow right now, according to Google Weather) because they're fighting like they're dehydrated in a sauna. Just pushing everything, no snap.

Anyway, still pretty much all Vlasov in terms of meaningful offense, primarily face-nudging jabs, although he got caught with some dumb wide telegraphed (but thankfully slow and snap-less) hooks from Valera in R3.

Another even-numbered round, another knockdown of Valera in the most underwhelming one-sided ass-whooping of the year.

...edit: make it two, better than both of the previous knockdowns; Mangu had rallied well after the previous one marching up throwing uppercuts at the midsection, but Vlasov changed it up on him and fought fire with fire, throwing a beautiful body shot of his own, a step-aside counter left hook on the liver that had actually Valera cry out in pain before going down. Saved by the bell.

Valera down twice from body shots. Vlasov looking very spry for a 38 year old.

 

The funny thing is for us (people born into Orthodoxy) Christmas is January 7th, so it's a benefit to do this event on 25th as we don't celebrate, and Christian Roman Catholic and protestant boxing fans will want to watch on Christmas with friends.

And of course many of these guys are Muslims (Russia is 10% Muslim) and don't celebrate at all.

 

Wow, ten percent? I knew areas like Dagestan and Chechnya obviously, but just assumed there was enough orthodoxy in the other few dozen oblasts and mini-republics that Islam wouldn't be that large a minority.

Valera throwing one shot at a time with some success but it isn't enough to overcome Vlasov's activity and combinations.

 

Vlasov tried for the KO in the 5th, but Valera putting on a courageous display of heart. Kept walking forward through a blizzard of looping rights on the head from Vlasov at one point, although he is well behind at the haflway point and 100% needs a knockout that he isn't close to having built towards.

Valera made this a phone booth round and landed some good shots to the body.

 

Vlasov still toying with him and landing whatever he likes, but occasionally gets his neck snapped like a Pez dispenser from a rising Valera right hand. Both thumping each other's sides in the pocket.

Vlasov's best round, He landed well to the head and the body with combinations.

 

Valera spending most of the seventh on the backfoot, which isn't his forté. Vlasov being a cocky bastard, walking up to him with hands down and chin thrust out, doubling up on line drive rights to body or head, and then after landing keeping his right arm extended to paint-brush Valera's face with his fist, daubing at him lightly just to - disrupt his eyesight? Disrespect him? Run up the score and pile on as much contact as possible as though he weren't clearly already dominating? Not sure.

Oops, low blow from Valera. That's what got him disqualified against Shabranskyy...

 

Valera just getting pasted. This is the most humiliating and emasculating loss of his career (more than his ones to Sullivan Barrera or Dmitry Bivol), and yet somehow also simultaneously the weakest and defensively/offensively sloppiest I've seen Vlasov look.
