I recorded Moore's title win at 175 over Joey Maxim the other night on ESPN Classics......... It was A. Moore's FIRST shot at the title.... Moore was age 36........ Moore looked in great shape........ Moore wins a 15 round decision over Maxim in St. Louis.... Q: Does anybody know for sure that Moore only received 800 bucks for this fight??? WTF happened to his payday????atsch Q: How much Joey Maxim clear? Anyone know??:huh MR.BILL:hat
Don't know the purse details, but that's one classy fight to have recorded. I did the same a while back, as the fight has always intrigued me, in that it featured two classy, smart fighters...Archie, whom everyone knows about, and Maxim, more of an enigma, who, IMO, has never been given his due praise for not only being a great defensive boxer of much longevity and toughness, but for HIS part in the famous "steamy hot" tko, the only stoppage on the great SSR's record. Archie's superior firepower was the key to this battle of ring "cuties".
is this teh full fight i remember you mentioning you wanted a highquality Holyfield-Qawi fight i have a copy send me an email
I swear to Christ, Archie Moore was ripped / buffed solid at age 36 and 175 pounds for Joey Maxim in 1952..... Moore looked Juiced-Up to the max, but I know he was naturally trained and clean....... It just goes to show you what real hard work can do..... Moore looked like a rock when he won the title from Maxim...... Joey Maxim looked solid too, but not like Moore........ Great fight...... MR.BILL
Not entirely the whole fight.... BUT! It is from the live TV telecast from 1952 with announcer Russ Hodges calling the shots...... The film is edited to a degree, but not butchered to death like "The Main Event" with host Rocco Marciano and them programs, etc..... MR.BILL This content is protected P.S. "Foreman-Qawi" is what I am after........ I have BOTH "Holy-Qawi" fights on tape.....
Jack Kearns was Maxim's manager he demanded an exorbitant gaurantee, before he let Moore anywhere near Joey, and he ended up as Archie's manager, shrewd man that Kearns!
Moore use to do hundreds of pull ups on the bars and spar with a flat iron in each hand ,he worked like a dog to develop those biceps and shoulders.
As great as Archie Moore was at 175, I just wonder how well he would've handled Bob Foster, Michael Spinks, Dwight M. Qawi or Roy Jones.... I'm pretty certain Moore could beat "Qawi & Jones," but I really can't say about Foster or Spinks........ Hmmmm... MR.BILL
I saw the fight. Moore won it easy. Maxim won a few rounds at best. Maxim had a good, but not hard left jab which scored and a good chin, but lacked the other stuff needed to beat a fighter like Moore.
