Again, any researchers out there know anything about Cates' alleged death and later reappearance please comment. Those who don't do any research and prefer to regurgitate the legends of old spare me your wit. You will be doing yourself a favor.

Then why not tell us what a dirty fighter with a pristine life like Harry Greb there has to be some dirt, hiding somewhere in there. Fair is fair. FYI, Raging bull was a movie, that got the Hollywood treatment it wasn't 100%, true. But you should know that, and the Tyson thing, I am sure people who went to his fights didn't say, "isn't this the guy who ****s women", I am not going to his fights lol.

Now that is MORONIC, this is a boxing forum which you and others have become gossiping old ladies, with BS that has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with BOXING. WGAF only the GOL's.

The GOL's have spoken, "researcher", is that what you are calling yourself now? WGAF, nobody but you. Talk about regurgitating, when you PI, vomit the most swill:lol:

Again, do you have anything substantive to add or are you going to pretend that this story didn't happen and just heap the ad hominem? Anyone who has done any reading or research on Dempsey has heard the story of Cates dying in a fire in Mexico (it was Mexico not Albuquerque). It struck me as odd to see her reappearance 4 years later. She was a major figure in the career of one of the most important fighting products of the 20th century. If you can't see the significance of that, perhaps you are on the wrong forum.

Why do so many feel threatened by this? Unlike Dempsey's ducking of his main contenders I don't see how this would have any bearing on his ring legacy. So why the paranoia?

You and the rest of the GOL's are on the wrong forum, we talk boxing you talk unsubstantiated gossip. Run to your dictionary/thesaurus find out what that means.

There is no paranoia, it's just another unsubstantiated fiction posted by GOL's with an agenda.

So, you are saying that she did in fact die in 1924 in a fire in Mexico. Or you are saying it does not matter. Or do you even know what you are saying?

I find Dempsey fascinating .. partly the myth of a man from the 19th Century / very early 20th Century West that left home as a young teen, lived a very rough life in hobo camps and mining towns , had little formal education, took up the fight game, married a prostitute, bounced at brothels and God knows what else .. what amazes me is that knowing that so much of what he must have lived though and participated in that has been airbrushed by history he still did become a positive representative of the sport, a national icon and managed to live a clean and prosperous life ... no stories of a drunken Dempsey beating people up, getting arrested, ect .. he really seems to have graduated from a far rougher life than the story book version we are used to reading and grew into a gentleman .. that is a huge part of his mystic to me ..

When I was young and didn't have a penny let alone a dime in my pocket. A friend and I would go to Dempsey's restaurant and stare in the window cos he always sat by the window or so it seemed. He would see us and beckoned us in and would give us each an autographed postcard, with artwork depicting the Willard fight.
He really didn't have to do that, he was a gracious man, and should be respected for what he did for boxing. Thank you for your post.

Posters, am I missing something by thinking why would the poster S constantly
pick on ONE fighter named Jack Dempsey time after time trying to unearth and discredit Dempsey if there was not innate clinical hatred towards him ?
Of hundreds of other classic boxers to criticize on ESB, why from nowhere now bring up his {Dempsey's} personal life ? It is called PILING ON, and it STINKS...
P.S. Perchance if Dempsey was still alive would Seamus still eviscerate Jack Dempsey as he now does ? You know the answer folks...

Again, burt, and I know this is has been difficult for you in the past, but try to stay on topic. Tell the world what you know of Maxine Cates... or start your own thread to be a tired old blowhard.
