Why would you doubt it ? She was alive in 1928 according to the article, therefore had not died in 1924. It seems the reports of her death is 1924 were mistaken. False reports of death are more likely than false reports of someone like this resurfacing, along with statements. Not that I believe everything I read in these old papers, but the likelihood of the death being the false report just seems more likely than someone making up a story like this. This happens sometimes. It used to happen a lot more. False reports of death not uncommon.
Nice story:good .I will be in NY in July staying near Jimmy's Bar W 44th St ,bought my $ yesterday, before our referendum on the EU *****s things.
According to the ancientfaces website, one Maxine Devin died in June 1939 in Kansas City, Missouri. It appears that this bit of information serves as a teaser for people to subscribe to the website in order to gain access to certain records. Note- I don't know if I am on the right track in an effort to find information about Jack Dempsey's first wife, Maxine Cates. She is such a shadowy figure. But I have to say that the information that I have found is interesting. I can't find any records about Maxine Cates that existed before 1916, the year that she married Jack Dempsey. Moreover, I really can't be sure about how much information about her is true. - Chuck Johnston
The 2 enlarged and bold words are a contradiction in terms when referring to ANY newspaper. I must confess I knew very little, and cared even less about Jack Dempsey, but with the amount of agenda driven sh!t you and a few others are shovelling on his corpse I'm starting to like the guy.
