Obviously complete fantasy, but if all the stars line up correctly, could the following card be possible for May 5th 2012, and if so, how successful would it be:

    1. Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Manny Pacquiao (WBC/WBO welterweight unification, undisputed pound for pound title)

    2. Juan Manual Marquez vs Erik Morales (WBC light welterweight title)

    3. Saul Alvarez vs Cotto/Margarito (WBC/WBA light middleweight unification)

The Floyd-Pac fight needs no discussion.

JMM vs Morales would be an all-mexican fight (2 atg Mexicans, at that) that would appeal to the Mexicans (as well as boxing fans as a whole) on Cinco De Mayo. I personally wouldn't mind seeing this bout. Yeah, Morales is definitely WAY past his best, but he proved in his war with Maidana that he can still compete with the best at 140 (and give entertaining fights) and while he was hand-wrapped the title, is still the first Mexican to officially win world titles in 4 weight classes. It also gives JMM a chance to become a 4 division world champ, which after his last fight, is something he deserves imo.

Alvarez is another Mexican star that would appeal to the specific date of Cinco De Mayo (and if he claims he's ready for Mayweather, surely he's ready for the best in his own division). If Margarito wins, it's another all-mexican affair. But if Cotto wins, there would be some Mexican-PR rivalry to add into the mix (which would probably be at a height if Cotto beat Margarito).

I don't think the 2 undercard bouts are stand alone headline PPV events myself, but the question is, would the promoters be willing to put these bouts as undercards when they could headline separate events and take in more money re live gates etc... Plus having 4 stars on the undercard means the 2 main eventers would ultimately get a little bit less (but still rake in **** loads).

But I think this card on May 5th, 2012 does 3million+ PPV's easily.

Complete fantasy, I know, but hey...

    That's a bit pessimistic

Would Cotto agree to be an undercard? I think he's done enough in the game to decline not being the main event.

Of those 3 fights, the Manny/Floyd fight is the weakest and would be the least intresting.

If Manny vs Floyd does get signed for May 5th you can expect a below par undercard to go with it

**** it, might as well throw Vitali - Haye on the undercard as well.

Having a mega stacked undercard makes no sense whatsoever! Everyone will buy this card for the main event anyway. A stacked undercard will not bring in more buys

No, JMM Morales would be fine. But Alvarez-Cotto is a bit overkill.

Alvarez-K9 might be possible on that card though. Especially if its split site.

Would be epic, but no way in hell does that happen.

If the May/Pac fight does happen, then they do need to pack it with a great undercard. It will be a huge event and many casual fans will be watching, so a great impression is a must. Add to that the fact that on paper the May/Pac seems like a great matchup, but I think it will be a boring one sided fight.
