In the May 1994 Ring, the top five at each weight were rated .
    Here are the Bantamweights.

    1 Carlos Zarate
    2.Eder Jofre
    3.Ruben Olivares
    4.Manuel Ortiz
    5.Panama Al Brown

    Thoughts?

Fairly good list, personally I think Zarate is too high but it is debateable as he is a valid number 1 choice.

My freind has a 1972? Ring Magazine that had an article weighing up Olivares historic significance and how he did with other great Bantams, I cant mind much past that though. But it was intereseting.

Interesting list. Interesting that there hasn't been anyone in the last 16 years who could be rated above any of them, or is there?

Not a bad list, especially if we are excluding McGovern and Dixon from the weight, I woudn't have Zarate at #1 though.

Thought so, what about Hasegawa and Marquez, how good compared to Sahaproom do you think they are?

Hasegawa's career is still very much in progress.I'd give him time before a proper assessment can be made, but i don't think he is currently in the class of the prime sahaprom.

Marquez was never as good a boxer-puncher, or talent in general imo.Just a bigger puncher.sahaprom would have outclassed and possibly stopped him imo.

Mine is almost the reverse of that, except I still rate Jofre above Olivares.

I think the 4 names that follow Carlos have at least some argument for no1...IMO Zarate does not.

I couldnt see him any higher than no3 to be honest.
