Then how come Ali got his ass kicked by one of the shortest heavyweight champions of all time? What do you think the tallest heavyweight champion of all time would do to him? He'd get worse than a busted jaw if Valuev felt like it, obviously.

    To be fair to Haye....

Barrett was coming off that Tye Fields KO and everyone was saying he should fight Monte or he's a *****...

Valuev was the WBA belt holder

    Ruiz was the mandatory

Hard to criticize the comp really. Going the WBA route made sense and has left him in a stronger position now with the Klitchkos (proven by Wlad officially calling him out and now offering him 50/50)

He is not very active but he has made great strides in 25 fights or whatever it is.. i mean 5 world titles in two weight divisions strikes me as someone who doesn't **** around fighting bums. He believes in his ability and has backed it all up so far. The Klitchko fights will happen in the next year and he will give them problems no doubt.

So many things can happen until next year that can derail the big unification chance we have now.

What if some bum knocks Haye out in the next 12 months? Or what if some bum knocks Wlad out? What if either of them injures themselves. What if Vitali retires by the end of the year? Stranger things have happened in boxing.

Wlad made it very clear: the fight is on the table right now, there is nothing in the way of the fight as long as both parties are interested in making it. We could have it right now, why should we gamble away this amazing chance for a great fight? Why do we wait now? What's there to wait for? It's not like we have all circumstances aligning like this every day. If Haye had any passion for HW boxing and us boxing fans he would jump at this historic chance, not squander it.

Maybe this was as close as we ever got to the fight and it all rolls downhill from here. At least Wlad tried all he could. Boxing historians will remember that.

The fight has to be made. Who want's the HW championship to be shattered any longer? It's almost 18 years now without a 'undisputed' champion, ever since Riddick'ulous' Bowe rather lost his WBC belt than face Lennox.
Vitali already made clear he would retire at the end of this year, so there finally is a possibility to re-unify all the 'mayor' straps.
And isn't that what Haye shouted around all day, every day, to everybody who wanted or didn't want to hear it? The undisputed HW champion he would become... So fight (and get pummeled)!

Haye quickly forgot about his dream of becoming the universally recognized HW champ.

He seems to be telling himself "Ok, would be nice to be unified HW champ. But why risk what I have now? I have this WBA strap, I can make decent cash with it with ZERO risk. So why take a risky fight just to get a little more fame and money? Is that really worth it? Or should I rather stay where I am?"

Haye is becoming a lazy ******* that is happy with what he has. His hunger for glory quickly gave way to the comforting life of a WBA belt hogger.

The things is, if he keeps fighting bums he'll lose credibility very quick, and if he fights top HWs such as Chambers, Adamek, Povetkin or Chagaev there's a very real possibility he'll lose. So either he keeps fighting bums looking like a joke, or there's a very real possibility he loses his strap.

he's already lost most credibility to be honest. back a year ago, this thread would have been descended on by a hundred haye fans. now, there's not a lot of support for him, even amongst the die hards

That sums up Haye's situation perfectly.

Haye is a puss if he doesn't fight a Klitschko after calling them out
but if I was his manager, i'd have him fight manditories and stretch
the pay days out. Vitali will time out soon and Wlad will get slower
as time passes. Is this a scam? Yes, but it maintains the tension
longer. Kinda like Pac and Floyd.
Frankly, there is more excitement in boxing now about fights that
aren't happening than there is about fights that are.

On three, everybody jump out of the ring.

So supporting an unnecessary delay of a fight that we all want to see is "sensible"? Please explain. Do you want to see big fights happen or do you secretly hope the big fights always fall apart? What kinda sick game is that, taking pleasure when big fights end up going nowhere and never happen?

You will be happy if Haye - Wlad doesn't happen now? You guys were cheering when Mayweather - Pacman didn't happen? You were ecstatic when Lewis - Bowe didn't happen?

Seriously, some of you guys can't possibly be boxing fans.
