Maybe I have been very wrong about how good Linares can be...

This guy has to be biased. I have this fight on my computer (it's not impossible to find :)). Considering the vicious combination that Linares used to end this fight, I don't see how you can say he looked poor. That last round was vicious. Do you allow your opinions to be changed by boxing articles that fast, especially without watching the fight?

Linares is anything but ordinary. Pacquiao didn't knock Larios out. Linares did. I have 21 of his 26 fights. He's quite an excellent boxer that doesn't lose many rounds ever. I personally believe he has some stamina and concentration issues, but as far as boxing talent goes, I don't see how you can watch his last three fights and not see that he has it in spades. 3 stoppages, each with vicious combination punches speaks for itself.

I really want to thank whomever posted the fight on youtube.

I have no idea want in the hell that writer was talking about when he said Linares looked bad.

Linares dominated that fight and ended it in 5 rounds.

Also, it is true that Valero beat this guy in 1 round, but that is Valero's style...he just runs in and attacks.

Linares just calmly got 4 rounds of work in and then just ended it.

    Linares is a pro.

Are there any fighters as technically sound as him at the age of 23???

You won't find many that come close to being as polished, and displaying the type of skills that he does at such a young age. Most people don't know how to guage real boxing talent when they see it. This guy uses every single thing that is taught to boxers, and he controls fighters very effectively with his jabs and movement. It's the reason he was able to stop a pressure fighter like Larios.

I can't name any current fighter that is as technically sound as him because I consider his talent to be elite level. I'm NOT saying he is a great fighter, I'm specifically talking about his beginning talent level, which is definitely equal in quality to Calzaghe and Mayweather's.

He doesn't have the superspeed advantage that they had, though, despite being quite fast himself because at their beginning Calzaghe and Mayweather were insanely fast. He also doesn't have their stamina, otherwise he'd stop a lot more opponents with a higher punch output paired with his accurate punching. His stamina is his biggest challenge in my opinion. But his skill level is rare and most people don't know that simply because they haven't watched his fights. I have most of his fights and can compare them side by side to current fighters, and most fighters don't come close to him talentwise. Ultimately I believe that his stamina issues and career management are things that might prevent him from becoming a big name fighter.

Yeah, it's true. Linares looked very ordinary for the most of the Garcia fight. In the final two rounds he seemed to click into gear, and as it was ending he looked brilliant. He was obviously rusty. There was a distinct and apparent change when he kicked it into focus.

Cal maybe, not Floyd. PBF was hyperquick, punched in combinations and had very good power at 130. Not to take anything away from Jorge, but come on....

usually Linares looks better than he did in that fight. 12 months of inactivity and recovering from an injury will do that to someone.
