Holding excessively merits a DQ. It does nothing for the sport. All it does is give fighters who are afraid to mix it up an unfair advantage. It drives away potential fans, it ruins potentially good fights, and it's an illegal tactic.

It's illegal, end of. An accidental clinch is one thing, but an initiated clinch is no different to an initiated headbutt, rabbit punch, low blow. ALl are illegal, why is one ok and "part of boxing"?

I want to see tall boxers keeping their opponents helpless on the outside and jabbing their heads of for 12 rounds. That's real boxing, no ugly and desperate bull rushes aimed for inside fighting. Simply just stay in the middle rocky balboa style and let the opponent show of for the audience.

Clinching is NOT illegal. That's why referees just "stop-and-box". Abusing clinching is illegal.
