Just goes to show the double standard between old school fighters and modern ones. Foreman dropped Frazier 6 times and despite not putting him down for the count, his punching power is revered by the boxing world for it.

Similarly, Dempsey dropped Willard 7 times, but his power is overrated because he didn't put him down for the count.

Anyone who takes the time to read the reports of and interviews with Willard in the days after the fight would know that he was fine except for a cut lip and swollen cheek, all of which was barely noticeable a few days later....

I have quoted ad nauseum accounts and interviews in the week following the bout. Willard was fine. He drove his own car half way across the country mere days later.

And he had claimed severe and unverified injuries in a previous bout.

Was he tough? Seems to have gotten a bit tougher with the Johnson bout, and certainly in latter bouts. I will not take that away from him. But his injuries in Toledo are greatly exaggerated.
